LED Tube Light Installation Made Simple

Installing LED tube lights is a great way to save money on electricity and get potentially hazardous fluorescent lights out of your home or office. However, most LED tube lights on the market today can not just be directly installed in an existing fluorescent fixture. You will have to make some simple modifications to the fixture to properly install the bulbs. The good news is that installing an LED tube light in an existing fluorescent fixture is relatively simple. In addition, you should be able to buy fixtures especially designed for LED tube lights in the near future, and they should actually be cheaper than the equivalent fluorescent fixtures. This article will provide a brief overview explaining what you need to know in order to install the new energy-saving fluorescent tube lights in an existing fluorescent lighting fixture.

Fluorescent fixtures are designed to support a specific types and size of fluorescent tube. A fluorescent tube is incorporated into a fluorescent lighting system which consists of two or three main components: (1) the fluorescent lamp (fluorescent bulb or tube), (2) the ballast, and (3) the starter system. In addition, the system for a tube lamp includes a lamp holder and a switch. Depending on the particular fluorescent lighting system, the starter may be a replaceable component, a starter may not be required, or the starter function may be integrated into the ballast. The starting function may also rely on the physical design of the fixture. To retrofit a fluorescent light fixture to support an LED tube light, the ballast (and the starter if a separate one is present) must be disconnected.

Make sure that the LED replacement tube lights are the correct size for the fixture. Also, always remember that when servicing a fluorescent fixture or lamp for any reason, electrical power to the entire fixture should be disconnected. This is not always practical in situations where a large number of fixtures are controlled from the same power control (such as in open office areas). In these cases, insulating gloves and a nonmetallic ladder should be used if the fixtures must be serviced when power is present.

You will need a few simple tools, including a wire cutter and wire stripper (often incorporated into the same tool), a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, and a few wire nuts for reconnecting the wires once you have removed the ballast.

Once the old bulbs are removed from the lamp holders and the electricity to the fixture is turned off, you will probably have to remove the reflector that is located behind the bulbs and provides a housing for the wiring and ballast that lie behind it. Typically, it is fairly simple to remove the reflector or cover, but if it is not clear how to do this, you should consult the documentation from the fixture manufacturer.

If the fixture has an electronic ballast, you only need to remove that and then wire the power directly to the lamp holders, completing one circuit for each bulb. This is fairly simple, and typically you can use the existing wire in the fixture and then just add some wire nuts. If you have an older fixture with a magnetic ballast and starter, you will have to remove or open the starter and remove or short the magnetic ballast.

Depending on how much wire you have to work with, it is a good idea to leave long enough wires leading out of the ballast to be able to reconnect the ballast with wire nuts, if you should ever want to convert the fixture back to use for fluorescent bulbs or want to use the ballast somewhere else. Typically, the ballast will have two screws or bolts holding it in place in the fixture, and these can be removed using a screwdriver or pair of pliers, as appropriate. The ballast should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations as should the old fluorescent bulbs. Because the fluorescent bulbs contain a small amount of highly-toxic mercury, they should be treated as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly.

Once the ballast (and starter, if one was present) have been removed and the wires reconnected to complete a circuit for each bulb, replace the reflector or cover over the wiring and the area where the ballast was located, and the LED tube lights can be inserted in the end sockets. Unlike fluorescent bulbs which do not have a top or bottom, an LED tube light will have an obvious top and bottom, with metallic heatsink located on the backside of the tube and the LEDs visible under a lens on the side that will be aimed towards the area to be illuminated. Place the cover back on the fixture (if there was one) and turn on the electricity. Turn on the switch and if you have done everything properly, you should have as good or better lighting using approximately half the electricity and lasting as long as 50,000 hours or more.
.
Related reading:LED Tube Light fingerq wow power leveling Used construction machinery

Energy Saving Light Bulbs - The Walk Through

You may have read some of my other articles and the world of energy saving light bulbs. But the terms 'halogen', 'cfl' and 'led' may of confused you. I plan to solve that problem with this easy to understand article on the basic four types of light bulb.

First of all there are filament bulbs. Basically a current flows through a thin piece of wire causing it to heat and glow. It works by keeping the 'filament', from which it gets its name, in a zero oxygen environment. This means the filament won't burn out, or basically set on fire. But due to the design of this light bulb most of the electrical energy is transferred to heat not light and the light all comes from the small piece of wire it can really hurt your eyes. Also due to the heat they release they can be a safety hazard too.

Next up are halogen light bulbs. Not much better, they both work in the same way except halogens have the filament in a small capsule inside the outer 'shell' of glass. Inside this capsule is a halogen gas which is inert so they won't react and give off heat However even with these advances they are still not much better than filament bulbs but they will save you 030% in electricity! My advice is get these in any case instead of filaments due to the fact they have a low price and last longer than filament bulbs. In summary they are a much better value for money, but still not nearly as good as CFL's or LED's which I will move on to discuss.

The way a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) works is a current flows through a fluorescent gas, which lights up as the electricity flows through it, instead of simply a thin bit of wire getting hot. One huge advantage of a CFL is that since the light comes from all the gas, the light output is spread out and doesn't hurt your eyes. It also gives a nice glowing effect but whether you want this or not depends on the interior lighting scheme you have and the effect you are trying to achieve. But there is a problem with lower quality CFLs as they tend to flicker when they are turned on but this doesn't cover up the fact they are a lot better than halogens or filaments from an energy efficiency perspective saving around 80%. But LED's (Light emitting diodes) are still certainly better because they save around 90% in electricity and consequently contribute positively to carbon reduction.

LEDs are still most certainly the best quality of light bulbs you can get and you may have seen them more often in TV's and portable electronic devices in the past but now they are more main stream. This is because they use a tiny amount of energy compared to other light bulbs and last extremely long lengths of time, making these the best on the market. Don't be put off by the higher price because the huge lifespan and low energy usage makes them easily the best value for money light bulb long term. Go for them whenever you can!
.
Related reading:LED Tube Light fingerq wow power leveling pet protective film

LED Tube Lights

Lighting is incredibly important for day-to-day life. Adequate lighting is important for a working environment, a cooking environment, and just for simple living. Everybody complains after Daylight Savings Time ends that it's so dark so early and they just can't wait to get to bed - that statement itself should reflect how important lighting is in our lives. There are programs available that will change the tone and intensity of the light on your computer at a certain time during the day to reduce strain on your eyes and get you more ready for bed. Some scientists utilize light cycling to bring an animal into heat, by affecting their photo period. It then makes sense to purchase the best lighting possible and to adequately research your options.

Lights are available in all shapes, colors, sizes, and types. The most well known light is an incandescent bulb, which has changed very little since Thomas Edison invented it back in the 1800s. An incandescent light bulb is made up of a glass housing, molded into its characteristic shape in a process called glass blowing, and a coiled tungsten wire. The coiled tungsten wire is what absorbs the electricity supplied to it, and glows red hot. The energy is then released as heat and light. Fluorescent light bulbs came onto the scene and brought with them a new shape. Fluorescent lights were available in long tubes, commonly seen in high bay lights, embedded into a ceiling, or they were available in the flattened light bulbs now often seen in newly renovated kitchens. Fluorescent light bulbs contained a mercury and argon gas which became excited when electricity flowed through, leading to a release of ultraviolet light which was absorbed by the fluorescent phosphorus coating on the inside of the light, which would then release light in the visible spectrum. Next, LED lights were invented and are quickly becoming popular. LEDs are available as LED tube lights, light bulbs, and flood lights for sport fields. LEDs don't possess dangerous gases like fluorescent lights and they don't release as much heat as an incandescent bulb, making them incredibly efficient.

LED tube lights are great for someone renovating a house, or building an office or warehouse building. While LED lights may be more expensive to purchase initially, they quickly pay for themselves. The problem with incandescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent lights is the manner in which they release their energy. Due to how they release their energy, they waste a lot of it as heat. This results in not only a higher electric bill for less light, but also an increased electric bill in order to run a fan or air conditioning unit to keep the room or building cool. In addition to this, LED tube lights bring with them many more utility rebates. This is largely because of how green they are, an effect of the reduced amount of carbon monoxide they use, and how efficiently they use the electricity given to them.
.
Related reading:LED Tube Light filmgear FF14 RMT Cosmetic Bag
