IDT CREW X CONVERSE – “ON THE ROAD: GRAFFITI IN

Earlier this year, the IDT Crew (short for Industry Definition Transfer) set out on a 50-day road trip, starting in Kunming to and in the highest region on earth, Tibet. With support from Converse, the Chinese-based graffiti collective — made up of the artists WHYYY, NAN and SINIC — traveled more than 1,200 miles, painting on the kind of surfaces that seldom sees neon colored paint. Their exploits were captured in a 30-minute documentary called “On the Road – Graffiti in Vagrancy,” which can be viewed in its entirety below. Additionally, you can check out a gallery of photos from the Shanghai launch party.

HAZE X CASIO G-SHOCK – NEW YORK STORE ARCHIVAL I

Last month Casio G-Shock opened the doors to a retrospective on the legendary and prolific New York graffiti artist Eric Haze, hosted at the brand’s U.S. flagship store within NYC’s SOHO on West Broadway. Spanning both floors of their space, Haze organized over 25 years worth of his work, which spans across a variety of media, including wall art, bikes, motorcycles, logos, and – of course – Casio watches. The opening of the exhibit also marked the release of the 4th signature Haze x G-Shock watch that will be launched within Casio’s 30th Anniversary Collection. While the store will always be a key landmark for Casio lovers, the Haze exhibit will only be in place through the end of December so make sure to stop in before its too late to take it all in.
Casio G-Shock – New York City
454 West Broadway | Map
New York, NY 10012
Exhibition Dates: Now – December 31st, 2012

NBA: THE KING OF NEW YORK – DIRECTED BY AND STAR

The latest installment from the NBA‘s “Big” promotional campaign, entitled “The King of New York,” finds filmmaker Spike Lee rhapsodizing about former New York Knick Bernard King. One of the NBA’s most prolific scorers, the Brooklyn-born small forward torched two Texan teams in 1984, recording 50-point performances on back-to-back games against San Antonio and Dallas. The following season, King would score 60 points against the New Jersey Nets, this time at home in front of a delirious Madison Square Garden crowd. Lee was there, watching from the back row (“I could touch the roof”), witnessing history in the making. “All hail the king!” he declares, before wondering who’ll be next to wear the crown. The video, meanwhile, focuses on a mural depicting the purest scorer in the game right now, Carmelo Anthony. Check it out below.

PAYMENT DISPUTE WITH DESIGNER PHILIPPE STARCK

Apparently the Atlantic crossing was a no-go for “Venus,” the megayacht commissioned by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. News surfaced earlier today that the 80-meter long “Apple Store of the Sea” was in the midst of a payment dispute between its designer, Philippe Starck, and Steve Jobs’ family. Starck, one of today’s most prolific product and architectural designer, claimed his total compensation on the project was to be around €9 million euros ($11.8 million dollars), but at the yacht’s completion he only received €6 million euros ($7.9 million dollars). With the debt collection agency he hired, Starck filed a legal order with the Dutch courts for the yacht’s impoundment till Job’s heir paid the remainder. Built Dutch custom yacht builder Feadship at a cost of €105 million euros, or $138.4 million dollars, Steve Jobs’ “Venus” mega-yacht is currently docking in Port of Amsterdam till further notice.
