Hours before the biggest match of his career, Ultimate Fighting Championship star Jon Jones was part of a win for the good guys on the streets of New Jersey.

"So while we were at the park today a crack head smashed this old lady's car window and took off running with her GPS just as we were pulling up," Jones wrote on his Twitter account.

"Right away ... Coach Wink goes after this guy. Without hesitation, Coach Jackson Michael Oher Jerseys went after him ... I was shocked and stood there for a second. Then I threw my phone down and went with my coaches."

Though Jackson and Winklejohn had a head start, Jones was the first to track the suspect down.

"Before you know it, we're sprinting up a steep hill chasing after him. I turned the jets on ... we caught the guy," Jones said.

"We got the lady's GPS back. Our driver took a picture of Coach Jackson and I subduing the criminal.

"It feels so good to help others. It gives me power and energy ... I caught him ... Coach Jackson finished him."

According to Jones, the captain of the Patterson (NJ) police department called him later to thank them and "congratulate us on a job well done."

Spezza caps Senators' comeback
After leaving the game temporarily following an elbow to the head late in the second period, Spezza emerged as the hero in overtime, putting the finishing touches on the Ottawa Senators' wildly entertaining, unpredictable, come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.

The Lightning led 2-0 at the start of the third period, limiting the Senators to only 12 shots through the first 40 minutes, seemingly in complete control and looking very much like the playoff-bound team it is.

Then came the rally from a Senators squad which can't even dream about making the post-season until next spring.

With 7:33 left in regulation, Ryan Shannon snuck behind the Lightning defence and turned goaltender Dwayne Roloson inside out before tucking the puck in the net for a short-handed goal. Then, with less than four minutes remaining in regulation, Nick Foligno deflected a Zack Smith shot past Roloson to tie the game.

With the tables turned, the Lightning was fortunate to survive what ended up as an 18-shot third-period barrage by the Senators to get the game to overtime.

Spezza's game-winner came only seconds after Senators goaltender Curtis McElhinney stopped Vincent Lecavalier with a pad stop, but the goal was no thing of beauty.

On a two-on-one break, Spezza took a feed from Erik Karlsson. He lost control of the puck outside the crease, but it slipped through Roloson's pads.

"Yeah, that was going to be my shootout move," Spezza joked. "It rolled off my blade, I was tired, and the ice wasn't too good. Sometimes the hockey gods are smiling on you. I was trying to pull Michael Oher Jerseys it to my backhand. "

The lead would have been much bigger if not for McElhinney, who stopped 34 of 36 shots. McElhinney, fresh from knocking off the New Jersey Devils 3-1 on Thursday, was sharp throughout and made several big stops in overtime before Spezza's winner.

The Shannon goal sparked the comeback.

"It was a great play by Erik [Condra] to find me," Shannon said of the pass which sprung him free behind Lightning defenceman Victor Hedman. "When you're down two goals on the penalty kill, you're looking for opportunities . "

Shannon, who has now scored in three consecutive games after being a non-factor for much of the season, is also taking full advantage of receiving dramatically increased ice time late in the season. Shannon played 19:58 on Saturday and had four shots on goal.

While the Lightning is in no danger of missing the playoffs, the loss to the Senators has added to a March tailspin which has left Tampa with a record of 2-4-4 in its past 10 games.

Evans, a former light heavyweight champion, was supposed to fight Rua until a knee injury sidelined him and opened the slot for Jones. The two had said time and again they would never fight each other, but that position softened in recent weeks after Jones was offered the title shot.

Rumours have been flying for weeks that a Faber win at UFC 128 would set up both the title match versus Cruz and a slot coaching opposite Cruz on the upcoming season of reality-TV show The Ultimate Fighter.

"I'm coming to get it," added Faber.

• Jim Miller (20-2) moved closer to a lightweight title shot, posting an impressive TKO at 2:15 of the third round over Kamal Shalorus (7-1-2) in a lightweight contest.

Shalorus had never been finished before, but Miller landed an uppercut and followed with a left knee that floored him. From there, the New Jersey native followed him to the mat and pounded him out until the bout was called.

"I hit him so hard, I might have cracked something in my hand," said Miller.

"That's seven in a row in arguably the toughest division in UFC. I'm ready for [a title shot]. I come in here, I fight my heart out."

• Nate Marquardt (34-10-2) put on a workmanlike performance to claim a unanimous decision over Dan Miller (13-5, 1 NC) in a middleweight match. All three judges scored the contest 30-27.

• Brendan Schaub (9-1) continued his rise up the heavyweight division, knocking out legend Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic (27-9-2, 1 NC) at 3:44 of the third round.

As Filipovic lined up one of his patented leg kicks, Schaub responded with a right hand that sent the Croatian crashing to the mat, the lights out before he even landed. It was a counter-punch that Schaub had been training to use.

"It paid off in the end."

The win was a belated birthday present for Schaub, who turned 28 on Friday.

"Knockout bonus would be nice," a smiling Schaub said to UFC president Dana White, who after each event hands out bonus cheques for knockout, fight and submission of the night.

"You come to the rink knowing your team has a really good chance to win every night," Stamkos says. "We're not quitting on a chance to win the division. We've got a chance to do something this team hasn ' t done in a while. "
