NEW YORK (AP) -- Myriad Genetics Inc. is suing two privately-held competitors to stop it from selling a genetic test that competes with Myriad's BRACAnalysis breast and ovarian cancer test.

Myriad says Ambry Genetics Corp. is infringing on 10 patents held by Myriad and its partners and Gene By Gene is infringing on nine patients. It said the patents cover primers, probes, tests, and methods of testing related to the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are linked to increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Myriad is asking the court for a preliminary injunction blocking sales of any products that infringe on its patents.

The BRACAnalysis test detects genetic mutations linked to increased risks of breast and ovarian cancer, and the test is the source of most of Myriad's revenue. Ambry and Gene By Gene both launched their tests on June 13 following a Supreme Court ruling. Gene By Gene's DNATraits business said its test will cost $995, less than a third of what BRACAnalysis testing costs.

Myriad, of Salt Lake City, is being joined in the lawsuit by the University of Utah, the University of Pennsylvania, the Hospital for Sick Children, and Endorecherche Inc.

Ambry, of Aliso Viejo, Calif., said it will defend itself against the lawsuit. Gene By Gene, which is based in Houston, said it had no comment because it hadn't been notified about the lawsuit. Both lawsuits were filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.

On June 13 the Supreme Court ruled that companies cannot patent genes that are naturally found in the body, a ruling that analysts say will open the door for competing tests and additional scientific research. The court said synthetically created genetic material, called complementary or cDNA, can be patented. Myriad said it still holds 24 patents and has more than 500 patent claims related to the test.

Shares of Myriad Genetics rose $1.07, or 3.6 percent, to $30.91 on Wednesday.

FORMATION

Fulham are the oldest professional soccer club in London and historically one of the least successful, having never won a major honour since they were formed as Fulham St Andrews Church Sunday School FC in 1879. They have been known as Fulham Football Club since 1888.

HONOURS

Fulham have never won the English League title, the FA Cup or the League Cup. The nearest they have come to domestic success was as runners-up in the FA Cup in 1975 and they were runners-up to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League in 2010.

SPECIAL PLACE

The location of Fulham's Craven Cottage ground on the banks of the River Thames in south-west London is one of the most attractive in the country and has been their home since 1896, apart from two years of ground-sharing with Queens Park Rangers while Craven Cottage was being renovated between 2002-04.

Their nearest neighbours are Chelsea, whose roots owe something to Fulham. In 1905 the owner of Stamford Bridge asked the owner of Fulham if he wanted to move his club there but was turned down. The Stamford Bridge owner formed his own club instead, which became Chelsea FC.

FAMOUS PLAYERS

A host of famous players have appeared in Fulham's white shirts, the most revered being Johnny Haynes, who, in 1961, became the first footballer in England to be paid 100 pounds ($150) a week following the abolition of the maximum wage rules which limited players' wages to 20 pounds a week. He played more than 650 times for the club over 18 seasons.

Fullback George Cohen played in England's 1966 World Cup-winning side, while England's World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore played for Fulham towards the end of his career after leaving West Ham United.

Former Manchester United winger George Best had a spell at Fulham in the 1970s and their other notable players include Rodney Marsh, Alan Mullery and former England international and manager Bobby Robson, while Bulgarian great Dimitar Berbatov is currently at the club.

LEAGUE DAYS

Fulham joined the Football League in 1907 and first played in the top flight in 1949. After yo-yoing between the top two divisions during the 1950s and 1960s, Fulham sank to the fourth tier in the 1990s when their revival began under chairman Al Fayed, who sold the club to Khan on Friday.

TWO STATUES

There are two statues outside Craven Cottage but only one of them commemorates a footballer. A statue of Haynes stands outside the main gates of the club, while a statue of Al Fayed's old friend, the late rock star Michael Jackson, stands on the opposite end of the stadium by the banks of the Thames.

NO FLAGS

Before the current Riverside Stand was built, Fulham famously flew the flags of all the other 21 Division One clubs at Craven Cottage. When they were relegated from Division One in 1968, a fan asked in a letter published in the first match programme the following season if the club intended to fly the flags of the 21 Second Division clubs instead. The editor replied that they did not as they intended being in the Second Division for only one season, implying a swift return to the top flight.

They did spend only one season in Division Two but were relegated to Division Three at the end of it. Fulham did not return to the top flight until 2001 but the flags never flew again.

Domingo, 72, was hospitalized on Monday in his hometown and is expected to make a full recovery in about three to four weeks, publicist Nancy Seltzer said. "He's doing very well and responding very well to treatment," she said.

Domingo, who also serves as the general director of the Los Angeles Opera, has been forced to cancel five performances due later in July in the opera Il Postino at the Madrid Royal Theatre, a statement from the theatre said.

It said his hospitalization will also prevent him from conducting an orchestral performance in Madrid's Plaza Major planned for July 21.

In brief remarks at a naturalization ceremony at his presidential library in Dallas, Bush avoided wading into the merits of specific legislation pending in Congress, but said it was important for lawmakers to recognize the benefits of immigration to the nation's future. While he didn't directly endorse a Senate-approved plan his comments suggested the need for Republicans to deal with immigration reform in a broad way.

"I don't intend to get involved in the politics or the specifics of policy, but I do hope there's a positive resolution to the debate," he said. "And I hope, during the debate, we keep a benevolent spirit in mind, and we understand the contributions immigrants make to our country."

The former president spoke as House Republicans consider how they should respond to comprehensive immigration reform approved last month by the Senate. Some Republicans have said the party needs to help fashion immigration reform following President Barack Obama's sweeping victory in the 2012 elections among Latino voters. But many House Republicans remain unconvinced that endorsing a pathway to citizenship for 11 million unauthorized immigrants would be the right approach.

Bush helped make inroads with the growing population of Hispanic voters during his presidency but Republicans have since lost ground and some worry it could irreparably harm their ability to win future elections.

The former president has largely avoided the political spotlight since leaving the White House in January 2009 but has advocated for immigration reform in the past. During his second term, he pushed for similar legislation that would have given immigrants living in the United States unlawfully a pathway to citizenship.

In his comments, Bush noted the importance of upholding current immigration laws. "We're also a nation of laws. And we must enforce our laws. America can be a lawful society and a welcoming society at the same time," he said.

"We can uphold our tradition of assimilating immigrants, and honoring our heritage of our nation built on the rule of law. But we have a problem. The laws governing the immigration system aren't working; the system is broken," Bush said.

It was unclear if Bush's public encouragement would help spur House Republicans into action or potentially undermine reform efforts. While his public approval ratings have improved, the 43rd president was deeply unpopular when he left the White House and many conservatives rebelled against his push for immigration reform.

The latest attempt to address immigration reform cleared the Democratic-controlled Senate last month. It would spend $46 billion on border security, create new legal avenues for workers to come to the country, require employers to verify their workers' legal status and offer eventual citizenship for those here illegally.

But the vote in the House is likely to be much more difficult. Many conservative Republicans represent districts with few Hispanic voters and may be less-inclined to act on immigration. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has said he will not bring the Senate bill to the House floor and has said no legislation will move without the support of a majority of his Republicans.

Boehner has said border security must come first and many Republicans in the House support a piecemeal, step-by-step approach, rather than a single big bill like the one the Senate passed.

Panel discussions on immigration were being held at the George W. Bush Presidential Center following the naturalization ceremony for 20 people from 12 countries. One of the panels centered on how immigrants help drive the Texas economy.

"Finalmente, lo que este estudio nos dice es que lo que considerbamos que era bueno es realmente bueno".

Dados los riesgos conocidos de la terapia hormonal, uno de los coautores opin que las mujeres no deberan usarla slo para prevenir las fracturas, pero que si la estn usando por otros motivos, sera buena idea sumarle calcio.

Aunque muchas mujeres consumen calcio y vitamina D para proteger la salud sea, la evidencia an no define qu dosis son las ms tiles por encima y debajo de lo que las mujeres consumen a travs de los alimentos.

En febrero, la Comisin Especial de Servicios Preventivos de Estados Unidos (USPSTF, por su sigla en ingls) le atribuy riesgos al consumo de bajas dosis de vitamina D y calcio en la postmenopausia. Por eso, el panel desaconsej el uso del suplemento para prevenir las fracturas.

El equipo de Jean Wactawski-Wende, de University at Buffalo, compar siete aos de informacin sobre fracturas en mujeres de 50, 60 y 70 aos que haban participado del estudio llamado Women's Health Initiative (WHI).

Un grupo haba utilizado al azar la terapia hormonal o un placebo, mientras que otro grupo haba ingerido 1.000 mg de calcio y 400 UI de vitamina D o placebo por da.

Unas 16.000 mujeres participaron en ambos ensayos, incluidas unas 4.000 que aleatoriamente haban utilizado tanto terapia hormonal (estrgeno solo o estrgeno ms progesterona) con calcio y vitamina D.

Freeman and Toronto reliever Steve Delabar won the fan voting for the final spots in next week's All-Star game, meaning Los Angeles Dodgers sensation Yasiel Puig is likely headed for a few days off after a terrific stretch to begin his major league career.

Freeman set a record with 19.7 million votes, and Puig was second. Major League Baseball didn't release the vote total for Puig, but said the Cuban defector also surpassed the previous record for the final vote of 15.6 million for Shane Victorino in 2009.

"It's unbelievable," Freeman said. "I'm kind of speechless. I wouldn't be here without the fans and I just saw that it's 19.7 million votes. It's incredible and it's just a dream come true."

Freeman was taking ground balls during batting practice before Atlanta's 6-5 victory over Cincinnati on Thursday night when general manager Frank Wren called him over and told him about his first All-Star selection. The slugger had three hits and four RBIs against the Reds and is batting .313 with nine homers and 60 RBIs in 79 games.

"I never, ever thought that I would make one," Freeman said. "I just wanted to get to the big leagues, and when I got here I just wanted to win ballgames. All-Star games were not on my mind.

"To win this is just beyond me."

Puig won't get to play in the July 16 game at Citi Field in New York unless he is added as an injury replacement. The outfielder is batting .394 with eight homers and 19 RBIs heading into Thursday night's home game against Colorado, helping the Dodgers shoot up the NL West standings following a slow start.

"I don't have my head down at all," Puig said through an interpreter before the game. "I want to congratulate Freddie Freeman for winning the vote. I'm happy for everyone who voted. I have to keep playing. Hopefully the best things come out for this team for the future."

Puig has been in the majors for only five weeks, leading some to question whether he belongs on the NL team.

"If he can continue to do what he's doing over seasons, then we're going to see a lot of Yasiel," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "How good you are really is measured over time."

The final vote for the AL team also had its share of controversy, with Tigers manager Jim Leyland nominating five middle relievers for the spot. There was some talk about whether the list should have included more high-profile players, since the All-Star game is essentially geared toward the fans.

Delabar won with 9.6 million votes. The right-hander is 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 37 appearances for the Blue Jays.

The Braves and Blue Jays had partnered up in the process, asking fans to vote for each other's player.

The other players on the list included righties David Robertson of the Yankees, Joaquin Benoit of the Tigers, Koji Uehara of the Red Sox, and Tanner Scheppers of the Rangers.

Freeman and Puig finished ahead of San Francisco outfielder Hunter Pence, Washington shortstop Ian Desmond, and Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

MLB said a record 79.2 million votes were cast between the two leagues, easily cruising past the previous record of 68.6 million from 2009. Votes were cast through text message, Twitter and MLB.com.

Abandoning his suit jacket under a sweltering sun at Georgetown University, Obama issued a dire warning about the environment: Temperatures are rising, sea level is climbing, the Arctic ice is melting and the world is doing far too little to stop it. Obama said the price for inaction includes lost lives and homes and hundreds of billions of dollars.

"As a president, as a father and as an American, I'm here to say we need to act," Obama said. "I refuse to condemn your generation and future generations to a planet that's beyond fixing."

At the core of Obama's plan are new controls on new and existing power plants that emit carbon dioxide heat-trapping gases blamed for global warming. The program also will boost renewable energy production on federal lands, increase efficiency standards and prepare communities to deal with higher temperatures. Obama called for the U.S. to be a global leader in the search for solutions.

But Obama's campaign will face extensive obstacles, including a complicated, lengthy process of implementation and the likelihood that the limits on power plants will be challenged in court. Likewise, the instantaneous political opposition that met his plan made clear the difficulty the president will face in seeking broad support.

"There will be legal challenges. No question about that," former EPA Administrator Christie Whitman said in an interview. "It's a program that's largely executive. He doesn't need Congress. What that does, of course, is make them (Congress) madder."

Obama also offered a rare insight into his deliberations on whether to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline, deeming it in America's interests only if it doesn't worsen carbon pollution. Obama has faced intense political pressure from supporters and opponents of the 1,200-mile pipeline from Canada to Texas.

Declaring the scientific debate over climate change and its causes obsolete, Obama mocked those who deny that humans are contributing to the warming of the planet.

"We don't have time for a meeting of the flat-earth society," Obama said.

Obama's announcement followed years of inaction by Congress to combat climate change. A first-term effort by Obama to use a market-based approach called cap-and-trade to lower emissions failed, and in February a newly re-elected Obama issued lawmakers an ultimatum in his State of the Union: "If Congress won't act soon to protect future generations, I will."

Four months later, impatient environmental activists reveled in the news that Obama was finally taking matters into his own hands, announcing a series of steps that don't require congressional approval.

"This is the change we have been waiting for," said Michael Brune, who runs the Sierra Club, an environmental group. "Today, President Obama has shown he is keeping his word to future generations."

Republicans on both sides of the Capitol dubbed Obama's plan a continuation of his "war on coal" and "war on jobs." The National Association of Manufacturers claimed Obama's proposals would drive up costs. Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito of the coal-heavy state of West Virginia slammed what she called Obama's "tyrannical efforts to bankrupt the coal industry."

"The federal government should leave us the hell alone," said Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, whose agency handles Texas' environment and energy markets.

Even industry groups that have been friendly to Obama and supportive of his climate goals, such as the Edison Electric Institute, which represents power plants, signaled their apprehension by calling for "achievable compliance limits and deadlines."

Obama said the same arguments have been used in the past when the U.S. has taken other steps to protect the environment.

"That's what they said every time," Obama said. "And every time, they've been wrong."

Obama broke his relative silence on Keystone XL, explicitly linking the project to global warming for the first time in a clear overture to environmental activists who want the pipeline nixed. The pipeline would carry carbon-intensive oil from Canadian tar sands to the Texas Gulf Coast refineries and has sparked an intense partisan fight.

"Our national interest would be served only if this project does not significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution," Obama said.

The White House indicated Obama was referring to overall, net emissions that take into account what would happen under alternative scenarios. A State Department report this year said other methods to transport the oil like shipping it on trains could yield even higher emissions.

"The standard the president set today should lead to speedy approval of the Keystone pipeline," said Brendan Buck, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Announcing he will allow more renewable energy projects on public lands, Obama set a goal to power the equivalent of 6 million homes by 2020 from sources like wind and solar, effectively doubling the current capacity. The set of actions also includes a new set of fuel efficiency standards for heavy-duty trucks, more aggressive efficiency targets for buildings and appliances, and $8 billion in federal loan guarantees to spur innovation.

By far the most sweeping element and the one likely to cause the most consternation is new limits on carbon dioxide pollution from power plants.

The administration has already proposed rules for new coal-fired plants, but they have been delayed amid industry concerns about the cost. A presidential memorandum Obama issued Tuesday directs the EPA to revise and reissue the new plant rules by September, then finalize them "in a timely fashion."

The key prize for environmental groups comes in Obama's instruction that the EPA propose rules for the nation's existing plants by June 2014, then finalize them by June 2015 and implement them by June 2016 just as the presidential campaign to replace Obama will be in full swing.

Rather than issue a specific, uniform standard that plants must meet, the EPA will work with states, power sector leaders and other parties to develop plans that meet the needs of individual states and also achieve the objective of reducing emissions.

MVEZO, South Africa (Reuters) - Workers armed with pick-axes and a court order broke into the compound of Nelson Mandela's grandson on Wednesday to exhume the remains of three of the anti-apartheid hero's children, a new twist in a row that has split South Africa's most famous family.

Within hours of a ruling against Mandla Mandela by the high court in Mthatha, 700 km (450 miles) south of Johannesburg, police and hearses arrived at Mandla's complex in the nearby village of Mvezo, where the three Mandela offspring are buried.

The grey palisade gates blocking the road were forced open in front of a scrum of photographers and cameramen.

The three bodies were initially laid to rest in the family cemetery in Qunu, the village where Mandela - now 94 years old and critically ill in hospital - spent most of his childhood.

But they were moved two years ago by Mandla to Mvezo, where he serves as the official head of the clan.

The spat over the site of the Mandela family graves has transfixed and appalled South Africa's 53 million people as they contemplate the reality that the father of the post-apartheid "Rainbow Nation" will not be with them forever.

In a court affidavit filed against Mandla last week, Mandela's eldest daughter, Makaziwe, argued for an urgent hearing, saying her father was in a "perilous" condition and breathing with the aid of life-support, local media said.

"The anticipation of his impending death is based on real and substantial grounds," the City Press newspaper quoted the court papers as saying.

Mandla has not made clear why he moved the remains the 20 km to Mvezo, where Mandela was born, but many South Africans believe it is part of a campaign to ensure the country's first black president is buried there.

Mandla has already built a visitor center at Mvezo and a memorial to his grandfather, one of the 20th century's most admired political figures, revered across racial and religious lines as a symbol of opposition to injustice and oppression.

Last week, a faction of the family led by Makaziwe sought a court order compelling the bodies to be returned to Qunu.

Local media reports have suggested the initial movement of the remains by Mandla may have been carried out without the required cultural customs being observed, and police have opened an investigation to determine whether it was done illegally.

Mandla, a 39-year-old Member of Parliament for the ruling African National Congress (ANC), was not present when a posse of police, workmen and undertakers entered the Mvezo complex to carry out the court order.

However, a statement released by his office said he would not stand in their way.

"Nkosi Zwelivelile has on numerous occasions indicated that he is not against the repatriation of the remains in question," the statement said, calling Mandla by his official clan title.

It also condemned "a lot of allegations and dirt thrown in his direction".

Makaziwe was present at Mvezo but did not talk to reporters, who were pushed back by police. After the court decision, her only words to reporters were: "This is a private family matter."

The three Mandela children buried in Mvezo are an infant girl who died in 1948, a boy, Thembi, who died in a car crash in 1969, and Makgatho, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 2005. In all, Mandela fathered six children from his three marriages.

In a statement announcing the commitment, PensionDanmark's chief executive Torben Moger Pedersen noted the fund has already invested in two offshore wind projects in Denmark and said it was "delighted to participate in the Cape Wind project."

The $2.6 billion Cape Wind project aims to be the United States' first offshore wind farm. But the project, proposed in 2001, has been beset by lengthy review and entrenched opposition and has been seeking investors.

The PensionDanmark announcement is the first guaranteed financing commitment of a specific dollar amount that's been announced by Cape Wind.

In March, Cape Wind said The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ would coordinate its financing, and also invest in the project, but no specific commitment was disclosed. Cape Wind has said its turbine supplier, Siemens, was tentatively committed to a $100 million investment.

Cape Wind is also pursuing a Department of Energy loan guarantee of an unspecified amount.

PensionDanmark's investment is conditioned on whether Cape Wind officials have the rest of the project financed by year's end, but Pedersen said he's confident they will.

Cape Wind president Jim Gordon said PensionDanmark's "important investment is a milestone in the Cape Wind project." Project spokesman Mark Rodgers said the fund is a respected global voice on offshore wind financing, and called its commitment "a great validation of the soundness and merits of the project."

But project opponent Audra Parker of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound called Tuesday's announcement a "non-event," noting the $200 million is less than 10 percent of the project's development costs.

She said pending lawsuits and opposition from some prominent Massachusetts business groups, who recently took out newspaper ads against Cape Wind, "show 2013 is the beginning of the end for Cape Wind."

The project, planned for Nantucket Sound, is touted as a way to reduce pollution and dependence on fossil fuels, while jumpstarting a new industry that can bring critical jobs and local investment.

But critics say the project will ruin the pristine sound while producing electricity at above-market cost that will make Massachusetts less competitive.

Cape Wind plans to be operating by 2015, when the starting price for its power is 20 cents per kilowatt hour under its power purchase deals. That's well above the cost of other alternative fuel and fossil fuel energy sources, including onshore wind and natural gas.

But state regulators who approved the deals, which Cape Wind made with the state's two largest utilities, said Cape Wind's benefits are worth the price.

Cape Wind is proposed as a 130-turbine wind farm. But since it doesn't have committed buyers for 23 percent of its planned power output, officials are currently trying to finance just the first 101 turbines, then seek investors for the remaining turbines if and when it finds a buyer for the remaining power.

If the project ends up being smaller than originally planned, the price of Cape Wind's electricity goes up under the terms of its existing power purchase deals.

PensionDanmark's Pedersen said Cape Wind is an attractive investment at a time when bond yields are low and said he's confident the long-stalled project will succeed. The weather conditions off New England are comparable to those off Denmark, and he believes the region will prove a similarly good place for offshore wind energy, he said.

"It fits very well into our business portfolio," Pedersen said.
