A panel of editors and photographers from The Republican and MassLive.com who judged this year's contest rate Gerhard's photo, taken in mid-October this year, as one of the seven winners in the 2012 contest. Gerhard's photo appears on Page A1 of The Republican on Monday, and she also will receive a plaque featuring a print of the front page showcasing her photo.


The 2012 Fall Photo Contest drew nearly 400 entries. The contest is sponsored by Hunt’s Photo and Video. Continuing through Wednesday, one winning photograph each day will be published on the front page of The Republican.

While they have collaborated on music before, this was a particularly emotional song for them and their family. The track, "Over You," is about Shelton's late brother, who died in a car crash 15 years ago. The two co-wrote the song but by Shelton's request, Lambert was the one who recorded it.

The police officers were wearing civilian clothes and driving private cars at the time - which correspondents say would suggest it was a planned attack rather than part of a duty operation.

According to the prosecutors, the officers then changed into their uniforms and used their patrol cars before driving to the police station.

One of the officers has been charged with making false statements, while five others have been accused of covering up the attack.

The three victims were driving from Mexico City to Cuernavaca, on their way to a military training facility when they were chased and shot at from a number of different vehicles.

Tests showed all the bullets came from AK-47 rifles belonging to the 14 federal officers, but which had not been issued to them by the police.

Mexico has endured years of bloodshed that have left more than 55,000 people dead since President Felipe Calderon deployed soldiers to combat cartels in 2006.
