こんにちは。

今回も「神様とゴルフ」のお話。

ゴルファーなら、絶対にこれは誰かに言いたくなっちゃいますよね！

The Reverend Francis Norton woke up Sunday morning.
He realized that it was an exceptionally beautiful
and sunny spring day and decided he just had to play golf.

日曜の朝、目覚めると、
最高の天気なのでノートン師はゴルフをすることにした。

So he told the associate pastor that he was feeling sick

and convinced him to say Mass for him.
Then he headed out of town to a golf course

about forty miles away.
This way he knew he wouldn't accidentally meet anyone

he knew from his parish.

仮病をつかい同僚の牧師にミサの代行を頼んだ。
そして、信者に出くわさないよう、遠方のゴルフ場に彼は向かった。

Setting up on the first tee, he was alone.
After all, it was Sunday morning

and everyone else was in church

最初のホールでティーアップすると他には誰もいなかった。
だって、日曜の朝だから皆さんは当然教会にいるんですもんね。

About this time,
St. Peter leaned over to the Lord while looking down

from heaven and exclaimed,

天国から下の様子を見ながらペテロは神様に申し上げた。

"You're not going to let him get away with this, are you?"

”このまんまにされるおつもりですか？”

The Lord sighed and said,
"No, I guess not.Just then Father Norton hit the ball.

神様が「いや、それはないだろう」と言ったその時、

ちょうどその時ノートン牧師はボールを打った。

It shot straight toward the pin, dropped just short of it,
and rolled up and fell into the hole.

するとボールは真っすぐにピンに向かって飛び、

ピンそばに着地し、転がってカップに入った。

IT WAS A 420 YARD HOLE IN ONE!

420ヤードホールインワン！

St. Peter was astonished.
he looked at the Lord and asked,

"Why did you let him do that?!

ペテロは驚いて神様に伺った。

“何故あんなコトをさせてやるのですか？”

The Lord smiled and replied,

神様は笑って答えられた、

"Who's he going to tell?"

”彼はこの事を誰に話すっていうんだい？？？”

ゴルファーだったら、こんなこと、きっと誰かに言っちゃいますよね。

もしかしら、

身近に起こっている奇跡的なプレーって・・・。

さて、ゴルフは絶対的な力も及ばないところにあるのかもしれません！！！

God and St.Peter decided on a round of golf in heaven

Peter is a testament to material values,

decked out as he is in the latest golf fashion,

with a brand new set of clubs and all the accoutrements.

God, in contrast,

is a picture of virtue wearing his old gardening clothes

and trailing a tatty old canvas bag with a real mixture of ancient

and rusting clubs, some of which even have hickory shafts.

On the first hole St Peter smacks a beauty 275 yards

straight down the middle.

God, however, tops his drive that trickles along the ground.

It only travels about 70 yards,

but just before it's about to stop a rabbit runs out of the gorse,

grabs the ball in its mouth and hurtles off down the fairway,

while St Peter watches in astonishment.

Before the rabbit can reach safety,

however, a magnificent eagle swoops down

and snares the rabbit in its talons before rising majestically,

the rabbit still struggling in its grasp

but defiantly holding the golf ball in its mouth.

As the eagle soars over the green a bolt of a lightning

from a clear blue sky strikes it, killing the bird instantly.

It drops the rabbit, which in turn drops the golf ball,

which strikes a sprinkler head at the side of the green

and takes one bounce straight into the hole for an ace on a par-5 hole.

St Peter slowly turns and says to God:

'Are you going to show off all day or are we here to play golf?'

天国でのゴルフ

物欲者のペテロはおしゃれなウエアーに身を包み，

新品ゴルフセットを手にして現れた。

一方清廉潔白な神様は作業着で、

おんぼろバッグにヒッコリーシャフトの錆びたクラブを入れてやって来た。

ペテロは一番ホール見事にフェアウエーど真ん中275ヤード。

神様はボールの頭をたたいてしまい、

70ヤードほどチョロチョロ進んだところで、

突然うさぎが飛び出してボールをくわえて逃げた。

ペテロはびっくりして眺めてた。

すると大ワシが急降下してうさぎを捕らえて飛び立った。

うさぎはボールをくわえたままだ。

グリーンの上空までくると突然落雷がワシを襲った。

ワシは死にうさぎはボールを落とした。

ボールはグリーンサイドのスプリンクラーを直撃、跳ねてカップにホールインワン。

ペテロは神様に言った：

「一日中そうやって腕自慢をするのですか・・・？

それとも・・・ゴルフをやりますか？」

ゴルフは絶対的な力を持っても、

ルールを変えることはできない！

ゴルフに逆らってプレーしたら、

わかっちゃうんですね！！！

その意味では風が吹き、

天気が変化するなかで、

その自然と仲良くしてプレーしているゴルファーって、

どんな力をも超越しているのかもしれないですね！！！

今日は日常の夫婦の会話。

場所は就寝前のベッドのなか。

ちょっと素朴な疑問から・・・ゴルフ好きは時に、

意外なことまで話してしまいます！

あなたは再婚するの？

妻:もし私が死んだら、あなた再婚するの？
WIFE:What would you do if I died? Would you get married again?

夫:それはないよ、絶対に。
HUSBAND:Definitely not!

妻:なぜ？結婚してるって幸せじゃない？
WIFE:Why not - don't you like being married?

夫:もちろんそうだけど。
HUSBAND:Of course I do.

妻:だったら再婚、どうしていやなの？
WIFE:Then why wouldn't you remarry?

夫:わかった。再婚するよ。
HUSBAND:Okay, I'd get married again.

妻:するの？（傷ついた表情をして）
WIFE:You would? (With a hurtful look on her face).

夫:(ぶつぶつ言う）
HUSBAND:(Makes audible groan).

妻:ここに住むの？
WIFE:Would you live in our house?

夫:そうさ，すてきな家だからね。
HUSBAND:Sure, it's a great house.

妻:その人とこのベッドで寝るの？
WIFE:Would you sleep with her in our bed?

夫:他にどこで寝るんだい？
HUSBAND:Where else would we sleep?

妻:その人に私の車を運転させるの？
WIFE:Would you let her drive my car?

夫:多分ね。新車同様だからね。
HUSBAND:Probably, it is almost new.

妻:私の写真、その人のと取り替えるの？
WIFE:Would you replace my pictures with hers?

夫:そうすべきだと思うけど。
HUSBAND:That would seem like the proper thing to do.

妻：私のゴルフクラブ使わせるの？
WIFE:Would she use my golf clubs?

夫：それはないね。彼女は左利きだから...
HUSBAND:No, she's left-handed.

妻：無言...
WIFE:Silence...

夫：し、しまった！！！
HUSBAND:'Oh dear.. *****'

Golf - Below Par?

After a particularly bad round of golf,

Robert decided not to go to the nineteenth hole [the clubhouse bar]

and started to go straight home.

As he was walking to the golf car park to get his Range Rover,

a policeman stopped him and asked,

"Did you tee off on the seventeenth hole about twenty minutes ago?"

"Yes", Robert answered

"Did you happen to slice your ball

so that it went over the trees and out of bounds

and completely off the golf course?"

"Yes, I did. How did you know?'"Robert questioned.

'Well', said the policeman gravely'

"Your golf ball flew out onto the main road

and crashed through the windscreen of a BMW.

The car driver lost control

and crashed into six other cars and a fire engine.

The fire engine was unable to reach the fire in time

and the building burned down. Now, what do you intend to do about it?'

Robert thought it over very carefully and responded

', I think I'll close my stance a little bit,

tighten my grip and lower my right thumb.'

最悪の調子だったのでロバートは19番ホール（クラブハウスのバー）

をあきらめて帰宅することにした。

パーキング場に行く途中、警官に呼び止められ質問された。

「あなたは20分前に17番ホールでプレーしてましたね。」

「はい」と答えると、警官はさらに質問した。

「スライスさせて、林越えの特大OBでゴルフ場外にボールが出たでしょう？」

「そうですけど・・・どうして知ってるんですか」とロバートがたずねると、

深刻そうな表情で言った。

「あなたのボールはBMWの窓を突き破ったのです。

だからドライバーは車をコントロールできなくなって、

６台の車と消防車に衝突した。

そのため消防車は消火に間に合わず、建物が全焼したんですよ。

これをどうするつもりかね。」

ロバートはそう言われて、よく考えて答えた。

「そうですね・・・

　少しスタンスを狭めて、強めにグリップを握り、

　右親指を下げたいと思います。」　と！

こんなときまでゴルフのことを考えているとはロバート、凄いですね！！！

ＯＢをしてすぐ横にBMWと消防車があったとは、

どんなゴルフコースだったんでしょう？？？

The lost golf balls of Loch Ness

On a recent expedition to try and find evidence of the Loch Ness monster,

U.S. research teams came across something quite unexpected

-- not a prehistoric creature of the deep , but golf balls.

Approximately 300 yards from the shore

and 754 feet below the loch's surface sit over a thousand golf balls.

Apparently area locals have been using Loch Ness

as their personal driving range for quite some time

and seeing as that the balls are almost 300 yards offshore,

it looks like they've got some game.

Now if any of you "Ball Hawkers" are getting any ideas

about going after these gem's, just remember that

Nessy might have something to say

about you taking those Titleists from her lake.

ネス湖の紛失球

ネス湖の怪獣を探索していた米国調査隊は思いがけないものを見つけた。
なんとそれは深海の古代生物ではなく・・・ロストボールだった。
岸から300ヤード、湖面から754フィート下には1000個ものゴルフボールが
横たわっていたのだ。

どうやら地元の人たちがネス湖を打ち放しの練習場として使っているらしい。

ボールが岸から300ヤードも離れてるとこをみると何かゲームをしてたようだ。

このお宝を集めようと思ってるボールハンターはご注意。

怪獣ネッシーはネス湖からタイトリスト社のボールを勝手に持ち出す人には

ひと言あるかも。

そこにいる住人のことも忘れずに！！！

Alligator bites off part of man’s arm on golf course

Let's file this one under,

"Sometimes ya just gotta let that ball go"...Remember Chubbs Peterson?

BEAUFORT, S.C.

Officials say an alligator bit off part of a golfer's arm

as he leaned over to pick up his ball at a private South Carolina course.

The man, who is in his 70s, was retrieving his ball from a pond

when the 10-foot alligator bit him

at Ocean Creek Golf Course in Beaufort County.

The gator pulled the golfer into the pond

and ripped off his arm in the struggle.

His golf partners were able to free him.
Wildlife workers killed the alligator

and retrieved the arm in the hopes it might be reattached.
The man has not been identified.

He was being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina,

but officials there would not release any information about him.
A call to the golf course was not immediately returned.

ワニ、ゴルファーの腕に噛み付く。

”時には、ボールをあきらめなければいけない。”
サウスカロライナでボールを取ろうと、

かがみ込んだゴルファーの腕の一部をワニが食いちぎったと、当局は伝えた。

70代の男性がボールを池から取ろうとした時、3メートルのワニが噛みついた。

ワニは男性を池に引きずり込み、腕を食いちぎったが、ゴルフ仲間が救出した。
野生動物公園のスタッフがワニを射殺し、腕を取り戻した。

縫合をこころみるのだ。

男性についての発表はなく、サウスカロライナ医大で治療中である。

そこには危険もあるようです。

もちろんこのようなことは日常茶飯事ではありませんが、

自然の環境が隣接しているゴルフコースなどに行かれることがあれば、

池の周りなどはぜひ注意してください！

What’s the craziest golf hole you’ve played?

Every once and while you run across a golf holeand just wonder

"was the course architect on dope when he designed this?"

I've played some holes that just don't make sense.

A 112 yard par 3 at the local municipal course comes to mind.

So what's strange about a short par 3 you ask?

Well, you tee off on the side of a cliff for starters.

Most billy goats would have a difficult time getting to the tee boxes.

If you can make it up the hill,

you're aiming for a postage stamp green about 200 feet below,

where, depending on the wind

at that altitude you might have to hit a 7 iron

..or it could be a half loft wedge.

Now does that make any kind of sense...I didn't think so.

What would you say is the strangest hole you've ever played.

世にも不思議なホールって・・・？

コース・デザイナーは麻薬を吸いながらデザインしたのかな、って思うようなホールに出会うことがありますよね。　

私も訳の分からないホールでプレーした経験があります。

すぐ、112ヤード、パー３の、ある市営コースが思い浮かびます。

どこが変なのって？　

第一打は崖っぷちからのスタートです。皆さんはそこに行くのも大変でしょう。　

崖の頂上まで行けたら、200フィート下の切手サイズのグリーンを狙います。

この高さだと風を計算に入れて７番アイアンか、

それともハーフロフト・ウエッジで打つか・・・　これって理解できます？　

私には訳が分からなかった。

皆さんのプレーした、世にも不思議なコースはどんなとこですか。

Retired 64 year old woman gets TWO aces in one round
　

WHITLEY BAY, England – Ruth Day, a 64-year-old

retiree from northern England, had the day of her life

on the golf course last week.

Day managed to shoot two holes-in-one in the same round

at Whitley Bay Golf Club, where she is a member.

“A hole in one in itself is usually pretty amazing,”

Day said in Friday’s edition of The Journal,

a newspaper in northeast England.

“But I couldn’t believe it

when I did the same thing 10 holes further on.”

Day shot her first ace on the 149-yard third hole on Sept. 9.

She added the second on the 161-yard 13th.

“The first time it happened,

my friend was the one saying ‘It’s going in.

It’s going in,’ but I was relatively ambivalent,” Day said.

“Then the lads in front put their thumbs up to say it had gone in.

I was pleased because it was my first hole in one.

“It was the second one that was really amazing

because it was a more difficult hole.

We saw it turn and then we went searching for it round the back

to see where it was. We couldn’t find it,

and after a while we found it – in the hole.”

Day said she has been playing golf for about 10 years.

“Some people go through their whole life and never get a hole in one,”

Day said.

“I think there’s only a very small number of people around the world

who have done it twice in one round.”

Tiger Woods blazed a course-record, 9-under-par 62 on Saturday to take a commanding seven-stroke lead in the $7.5 million BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. He fashioned eight birdies and an eagle on another hot afternoon in the third leg of the FedExCup chase.

"It was just one of those kinds of days where it just built on itself," said the 33-year-old Woods, who is seeking his sixth PGA Tour victory of the year and fifth career win at Cog Hill.

Woods has a 54-hole score of 16-under 197. Marc Leishman and Brandt Snedeker share second at 204.

The 62 by Woods marked his best round since he shot a second-round 61 in the 2005 Buick Open. Woods previously posted 62s at the 1999 Buick Invitational and 1999 WGC-NEC Invitational, and 61s at the 2005 Buick Open and 1999 GTE Byron Nelson Classic.

"I've always liked it," Woods said of Cog Hill. "I played it here as an amateur in the old Western Open. I've always felt comfortable playing this golf course. Even though the course has changed this year for us, the routing is still the same."

”Cog Hillは僕のお気に入りのコースで、アマチュア時代Western Openをここでやったし、本当にプレーし易いコースだね。”

どんなプロゴルファーもタイガーのように好きなコース、

嫌いなコースはあります。

また、１８ホールの中でも好きなホール、

嫌いなホールもあるのです。

では、好きなコースや嫌いなコースとは

どのような基準で決めているんでしょうか？

簡単に言ってしまえば、

良いスコアーが出るのが好きなコースで、

悪いスコアーになるのが嫌いなコースということなんです。

単純過ぎる答えかもしれませんが、

プロゴルファーにとって、

スコアが最重要項目である以上、

細かい部分よりも最終的なスコアが肝心。

そのスコア自体が相性のバロメーターと、

言えるかもしれません。

では、嫌いなホールとは、

どのようなホールなのでしょうか？

これは・・・

ティグランドで立ちにくいホールを言うことが多いです。

我々アマチュアもなんとなくですが、

ティグランドに立つ時に、

目標がとりにくいという経験がありますよね！

そういうホールを言うようですよ。
