Gum tree

When you looking for "something".

In this case "something" could be everything.

For example, job, frined, relationship, community......

If you want to find something that you're looking for,

"Gum tree" might help you out in Australia.

Gum tree is one of the most famous social network in Australia.

People who are in Australia always use Gumtree when they are looking for something.

I think I can say they are addicted to Gum tree.

I am also the one.

In fact I found some friends through gum tree and I am going to find the job through it.

How you find information is so easy that you can use it without someone teaching you.

When I moved in this area, I didn't have any friend around me,which means I have many friends who I think difficullt to come here easily. So I used gum tree to find some friends who hang out with me. I got 7 replies. Four of them were not I'm looking for. I didn't write my gender on my post, so they asked me about that, and after that they never replyed to me. They must have through I was girl and had a relationship. The fifth person looked good man but I realized that he attempted to take advantage of me to find Japanese girlfriend. So he ask me to introduce some Japanse girl to him. But the rest of them are fortunately really good guys. So now I'm keeping in touch with them and someday we are going to meet.

So what I want to write today is if you use Gumtree, the odd that you can find that you are looking for get risen. If you don't use it, it sounds like you are jeopardizing your life.

Don't translate too much

Fortunately I have been living with my Australian friend who has been studied Japanese for a year and half, which is my kind of ideal. We always teach and practice English and Japanese each other. No wonder I have some oppotunities to explain the meaning of Japanese words in English, but it is very difficult to make him understand.

For example, can you explain ”向く” in English?

"Look at"? "Head toward"? "Turn"?

Can you explain the difference between 行く and 向かう?

I haven't find proper answer yet.

Anyway, today's topic is "Don't translate too much"

As you know, we are learning English through Japanese, which means when you see new words that you don't know, you will probably check them out though translateing them into Japanese. But when I restarted to study English, right off the bat, I found it kind of wrong just because I didn't use that words in appropriate situation.

For example, I used to see "use" and "take advantage of" as same meanings as "使う" because I learned them through the way that I said above. But, truth is, there are some differences. Use is used when you do something with a machine,a way and stuff like that, for example, You use computer. ( I am sorry to use "use" when I explain the meaning of "use".

"Take advantage of" is used when you are in appropriate situation to do what you want to do, for example, I took advantage of today's good weather to dry my wet clothes.

I can also say same thing as "proper" and "appropriate","think"and"reckon".

Now I'm concious of studying English through English and making sure when I can use this words and I'm wating the time to use "the words" that I learned. I'm definitely taking advantage of my situation that I am in Australia and live with my native friends.

How to make them laugh

Sometimes I found myself thinking of how to make Australian people laugh or what is the difference between Japanese sense of humor and Australian's one.

Few months ago, We had a comedy festival in Melbourne and I watched some comedy shows. But unfortunately I couldn't understand not only because of my lack of listening skill but also because they were laughing when I was not laughing and vise versa.

So today I tried to find the defference and I am going to explain it.

What I did today was watch Australian comedy shows on You Tube and dictate what they said and just discuss them.

I watched (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stDC-K4pzQA)

So I don't know if what I dictated is exactly what they said.

But I picked up four of them.

1. I had the key to good comedy routine. it is start strong and finish strong. So I wrote two good jokes.(laugh) That was the first one.(laugh)

2. I used to piss my pants everytime I had a stand-up in front of third grade my class and it cost my teaching career.

3 I was able to kill two birds with one stone but I was able to injure a person.

4 I tried to join the army but they said they didn't need to win the battle badly

So as you watch or read, this is not so funny.

I can't understand the point of laughing and I can't even understand why such a boring guy was joking in such a big venue. But I found one thing which might be the key.

I think Australian people tend to laugh at someone defining things in unique way that someone else have not used so far. Japanese people tend to laugh at someone defining things in unique way that someone else already used in diffrent situation, which is so complecated.

Over all, Australian's sense of humor is more simple than Japanese one but if you want to make Australian people laugh, we need to have unique and outstanding way.

There are many history of comedy in Japan and they alreay did a lot of ways. So what Australian people need to do to make japanese laugh is study Japanse comedy and reuse them in appropriate situation.

Thank you.

I little bit regret writing today's blog because I don't think it understandable.

I hope someone will be able to understand or make fun of me with a big smile.

I have to be rational

As you know, I submited my resume to many places but no one hasn't called me so far.

I want to think I am on the way to get another job but I should think of an altarnative plan at the same time, otherwise I can't get over this situstion that I can barely live in Australia.

So I have to decide on priorities first before thinking about that.

What made me came here are enhance my English skill and find my vitality.

I think this surrounding is the best to achieve them.

But the problem is the possibility that I can't find a job.

If I can't get a job it means I have to go back Japan.

The alternative plan is move back to city and find another place to live.

But the problem is I have to give up the corrent surrounding and the possiblity that I can't achieve my purpose.

Do you understand what I am thinking about?

My ideal is find a job around here and keep kiving here.

I really hope I can got a job, I really hope

How to find the job

Although I got a job, I am not satisfied with that job because it is a little bit far from my house and the salary is not good. I don't have a car so I have to ask someone to pick me up and drop me off. That's why I am still looking for a job.

Anyway yesterday I went to the shopping centre near my house to submit my resume.

What I want to write today is the way of finding a job in Australia is completely different from japanese way. In Japan if you want to find a job, what you need to do is find hiring information first and call the the place and they are interested you will call you to arrenge the interview. But in Australia usually there is no hiring information so what I have to do is submit my resume directly.

It was so hard and embarrassing for me enough to make my stutter come back.

"Hi. How are you? Are you currently hiring? Could I please leave my resume?"

Mostly they say "Not at the moment but if we need you we will call you"

So all I can do now is just hope.

"Be confident and brave" I said to myself over and over again.

But I realize it is kind of ridiculous to feel such a emotion because it is a natural way in Australia and they are already used to being asked if they are hiring.

So I should have said "Be natural" to myself instead.

I hope they will call to me. See you.

First time I work in Australia

Hi.Yesterday was my first time to work in Australia.

Before I worked, I was a little bit nervous not because I was worried about my English, but just because of the first time. I think anyone feel nervous when they do something new or that thay have never done before. So I felt nervous like that. But I also felt exicited to work because I thought nobody expected I work in another country, even me.

So I proved they are wrong including me.

I work in Melrose, which is called "reception centre" in general. So Any kind of party are held in that place. Yesterday's party was a auction party. Compare to Japan, I think Australian people tend to wear a dress or suit in a party and look suductive.

Anyway fortunately the work wasn't so really hard for me because what I did was kind of similar to what I used to do in my previous job in Japan. Even though I didn't know anything, the speed of serving and tecnique of mine was difenitely better than my co-workers who were in same position (and I know this is my bad charactaristic....).

On the whole that was a good experince but I realized my co-workers didn't concentrate on their job. Usually it was unforgivable in Japan to play game on the mobile phone instead of working . That was little bit annoying because I was tired and I did what they had to do( and I know this is also my bad charactristic.....).But It might be bad to jump to conclusion that they are lazy. I think they are influenced by their culture, that is to say...they don't think they are lazy. So I want to be the person who can take advantage of their personality.

All right. I think it's time to finish my blag today because my hands is getting tired.

Thank you.

the reason why I decide to go abroad

Hi. I'm Takuro.
I've been staying in Melbourne since this April.

Before I came here, I stayed in Philippine's for two months to study English.

So today I'm going to explain about the reasons why I decided to go abroad. Let me explain from two different perspectives.

First perspective is about my English. As you can imagine, I used to hate English like everyone else. I was going to live without using English and I thought it was possible. But I found it difficult and kind of impossible and also found that English is definitely necessary for my life. So I decided to go abroad to study English. But I had not studied for about two years and I didn't even have the basics of English.

That's why I decide to ask for a year's leave of absence from my university and go to Philippine's first to get a basic and Australia to enhance my English skill.

Second perspective is about my dream. I defined that the world that I want to belong to needs the people who have five abilities, which are of good English, good vitality, good communication, good planing, leader ship and taking an action fastly. I think I already have three of them but I don't have English skill and vitality yet.

I assume that if I go abroad, I can get them at the same time. This is another reason.

So lastly what really made me go abroad is; I thought it was time to give it a shot. Before I work, I want to do what I need to do rather than what I want to do. What I need to do is what I said to you in today's blog. Thank you.
