Bolivia has accused Spain, France, Portugal and Italy of closing their skies to Morales' plane, which was searched at the airport in Vienna on July 3, after being told it was carrying the former U.S. spy agency contractor from Moscow to Bolivia.

"We recognize publicly that perhaps the procedures used in the Vienna airport by our representative were not the most effective," Spain's ambassador to Bolivia, Angel Vzquez, told journalists after dropping the letter off at Bolivia's Foreign Ministry.

"We regret this fact ... the procedure was not appropriate and bothered the president (Morales), putting him in a difficult situation," Vzquez said.

Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said last week that the country was ready to apologize to Bolivia for inconveniencing Morales, but denied it had closed its airspace to his flight.

Spain is keen to maintain historical ties to South America, a growing export market, and has renewed efforts to nurture relationships with Latin America after expropriations last year by Bolivia and Argentina hit Spanish companies.

The unusual treatment of the Bolivian leader touched a sensitive nerve in Latin America, which has a history of U.S.-backed coups, and Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia offered Snowden asylum.

U.S. President Barack Obama has said any country that gives Snowden shelter would face serious repercussions. Snowden has been holed up at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport since June 23, when he landed in Russia from Hong Kong.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday he wanted Snowden to leave, but also signaled that the American was moving towards meeting Russia's asylum conditions.

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Don't worry about Paula Abdul; she's finding work. At least for one night.

Abdul, who exited Fox's "American Idol" and "The X Factor" amid shakeups to those show's judges' panels, has picked up a little temporary work via a one-night stand on yet another Fox competition series, "So You Think You Can Dance."

Abdul will guest-judge the series on Tuesday night, Fox said on Monday. Abdul will help critique the Top 18 finalists, a group that includes Jasmine Mason, Alan Bersten and Mariah Spears.(The latter, by the way, is not a human mash-up of former "American Idol" judge Mariah Carey and former "The X Factor" judge Britney Spears.)

Fox Sports personality Erin Andrews will also guest-judge the episode.

LONDON (Reuters) - Andy Murray is getting a taste for grand slam titles and believes crushing Novak Djokovic to end Britain's interminable wait for a men's champion at Wimbledon will be a springboard to take his career to the next level.

The 26-year-old became a national hero on Sunday when a 6-4 7-5 6-4 victory on a baking Center Court meant the nation could finally stop talking about Fred Perry who won his third Wimbledon title in 1936.

Murray's stunning performance was hailed by everyone from politicians, movie stars and fellow sportsmen, as well as the millions who watched his landmark victory, but the Scot will not be milking the plaudits for long.

After attending the Wimbledon ball on Sunday he was planning to celebrate with his sizeable entourage, including coach Ivan Lendl on Monday, then, after a week of rest and relaxation it will be back to the grind.

"I know what it feels like to lose in finals, in a Wimbledon final, but now I know what it feels like to win and that's certainly a lot better and it's worth putting in the hard work for," Murray told Reuters on Monday at the All England Club.

"I didn't know last year that it was worth it because I had never won a grand slam before until the U.S. Open last year.

"After that you realize the hours you put in training, preparing and working on the practice court, it's all worth it.

"So I hope this is a springboard for me and I will use it for my advantage."

Murray, who now holds two of the grand slams and Olympic gold, was already a member of the exclusive All England Club but when he walked in on Monday after "a few hours sleep" he did so with Wimbledon champion as a new title.

It is quite an upgrade and the realization of what he achieved the on a momentous Sunday for British sport was slowly sinking in, but only after watching a few TV replays.

"The last game was something that stands out but I had to watch it a few times to remember what actually happened because when I came off the court I had no recollection of that game," a relaxed Murray said.

"I had no recollection of the last few points in it at all. It was just a crazy way to finish the game and I didn't think it would have happened for me any other way.

"For everyone watching it needed to be like that to make it more special."

Murray had the whole country on edge as Djokovic saved three championship points in a row before Murray kept his nerve to engineer a fourth which he converted to spark wild celebrations.

His reaction to victory was a dazed walkabout on Center Court before climbing into the stands to hug his support group, girlfriend and mother Judy.

Last year's Olympic gold was memorable but Murray said winning Wimbledon was the pinnacle.

"I think it's number one, it's different from the Olympics," he said. "I think winning Olympic gold within sport is a huge thing but winning Wimbledon within tennis is the pinnacle and I don't think I will ever top that."

Murray beat Djokovic in the Olympic semi-finals and said that result had fuelled his belief that he could be the Serbian world number one again on the biggest day of his career.

"I spoke with Ivan the night before and we spoke about tactics and I watched my match against Novak in the Olympics semi-final from last year," Murray, whose decision to hire Lendl as coach 18 months ago has proved an inspired one.

From a player with all the shots to win majors, Lendl has tweaked Murray's mind to that of a champion too.

"We spoke again on the morning of the match and he basically said go out and work for every single point, that's your court, your fans are going to be behind you, just bring the title home, and I managed to do it."

With Murray and Djokovic both aged 26 and at the peak of their powers their rivalry looks set to dominate men's tennis, especially with Roger Federer showing signs of a slow decline and doubts over the durability of Rafa Nadal's knees.

Others like Juan Martin del Potro and Tomas Berdych are also threats but Murray is predicting plenty of exhausting battles ahead with old junior sparring partner Djokovic.

"I've known him since I was 12 and when we finish playing I'm sure we'll get on really well with each other but right now it's hard to be best of friends because these matches are so tough physically and mentally," Murray said.

"The matches we play are brutal and so physically challenging. It's nice we've know each other since we were kids and our parents have seen us kind of grow up together but it's hard playing against him."

Djokovic remains the world number one, for now, despite only having the Australian Open currently under his belt.

"It's tough," Murray said when asked if knocking Djokovic off his perch was a priority.

"Right now I hold two slams, the Olympic gold and the final of another slam and I'm still nowhere near number one in the world. The goal for me is to try and win the grand slams, win those tournaments and not worry too much about the ranking."

1. WELCOME BACK, COACH: South Carolina's Chad Holbrook will return to his old stomping grounds for his first super regional as a head coach. The Gamecocks are playing at top-seeded North Carolina, where Holbrook was an outfielder from 1990-93 and an assistant from 1994-2008. Holbrook's two sons were born in Chapel Hill, his sister is married to the Tar Heels' director of baseball operations and he counts UNC basketball coach Roy Williams as one of his best friends.

2. GLENN BACK IN GOOD STANDING: LSU starting pitcher Cody Glenn's teammates voted him back onto the team after he missed a start in regionals because of an undisclosed violation of team rules. The No. 4-seeded Tigers turned to senior left-hander Brent Bonvillain for the regional final against Louisiana-Lafayette, and he allowed three hits and no earned runs in a career-best 5 1/3 innings. Aaron Nola will start the opener against Oklahoma on Friday. Coach Paul Mainieri said Glenn, Ryan Eades and Bonvillain are options for Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday.

3. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT: Seventh-seeded Florida State is appearing in the super regionals for the sixth year in a row, the longest streak in the nation, and 13th time in 15 years. The Seminoles have won 19 straight regional games since 2008 and will be playing in their 291st NCAA tournament game on Saturday against Indiana. The Hoosiers, on the other hand, are in their first super regional and will be playing in their ninth tournament game.

4. SAM GOES BAM: The bat of Sam Travis is a big reason Indiana is the first Big Ten team since 2007 to reach a super regional. The sophomore first baseman goes into the series at Florida State with a .538 batting average in seven postseason games. He's hit three homers and four doubles, driven in 11 runs and hasn't struck out in 26 at-bats. He has a 1.038 slugging percentage and .618 on-base percentage.

5. FAMILIAR FOES: The UCLA and Cal State Fullerton campuses are 45 miles apart, and their baseball teams are meeting in the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in seven years. Fullerton beat the Bruins in a 2007 super regional and defeated them again in regionals the next year. The Bruins prevailed in a 2010 super regional. The teams met twice in the regular season this year, with the fifth-seeded Titans winning both meetings. Second-year Titans coach Rick Vanderhook was an assistant under UCLA coach John Savage from 2009-11.

6. RUNS, NOT STYLE POINTS: Kansas State, which plays at No. 3 seed Oregon State, is looking like a team of destiny considering how two of its biggest wins of the season came. The Wildcats clinched their first Big 12 regular-season championship on a bases-loaded passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning against Oklahoma last month. After falling behind 3-0 in the regional final against Arkansas, they scored the tying run on a wild pitch during an intentional walk and the game-winner on another wild pitch. K-State has never reached the College World Series.

7. LEADOFF MAN EXTRAORDINAIRE: North Carolina State leadoff man Trea Turner goes into the Wolfpack's super regional against Rice having reached base in 107 of his 114 career games. When he gets on base, the Wolfpack is 82-25. When he doesn't reach base or doesn't play, they are 8-9.

8. NOT JUST A TWO-MAN SHOW: Tyler Beede and Kevin Ziomek are Vanderbilt's 1-2 pitching punch, but don't forget sophomore lefty Philip Pfeifer. He might be coach Tim Corbin's go-to guy if the super regional against Louisville goes to a third game. After giving up a career-high nine hits against LSU in the SEC tournament championship game, Pfeifer bounced back to throw five shutout innings in a surprise start in the regional final against Georgia Tech.

9. LATE-GAME DOMINATION: If you're going to beat No. 6 seed Virginia, you might want to jump on the Cavaliers early. Virginia enters its home super regional against Mississippi State having given up no runs after the sixth inning in six straight games. The Cavaliers have outscored opponents 168-54 in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings this season.

10. BASEBALL-SOFTBALL DOUBLE: Oklahoma is bidding to make it to both the men's and women's College World Series in the same season a feat accomplished 13 times since 2000. The most recent schools to do it were California and Florida in 2011. Oklahoma's softball team won the national championship this week in Oklahoma City, sweeping two games from Tennessee in the WCWS finals.

In a rare instance of public relations before football for one of the league's most successful teams, the Patriots released a statement saying, "At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do."

The swift dissociation came the same day the Cleveland Browns released rookie linebacker Ausar Walcott, who has been charged with attempted murder and accused of punching a man outside a New Jersey strip club. And it comes the same week NFL rookies are gathering at the Browns' facilities for lectures and workshops designed to help them avoid the pitfalls of professional sports.

From Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick's dogfighting ring to the murder-suicide involving Kansas City linebacker Jovan Belcher, the league has struggled to keep pace with its players' off-field problems, some of them violent. Hernandez was charged Wednesday with the slaying of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, whose bullet-riddled body was found in an industrial park about a mile away from Hernandez's North Attleborough, Mass., home.

Prosecutor Bill McCauley said at the arraignment that Hernandez "orchestrated the crime from the beginning." Hernandez, who was held without bail, did not enter a plea, but his lawyer said the case against the 23-year-old football player "is not a strong case."

If convicted, Hernandez faces life in prison without parole.

"The involvement of an NFL player in a case of this nature is deeply troubling," the NFL said in a statement. "The Patriots have released Aaron Hernandez, who will have his day in court. At the same time, we should not forget the young man who was the victim in this case and take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy to Odin Lloyd's family and friends."

Even as Hernandez was being arrested, the Patriots continued the business of football.

The decision to release him broke up the tight end tandem of Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski that had been one of the most effective in history, a pairing of Pro Bowl players who combined for 16 touchdowns and 1,479 yards receiving last season the most for any team at the position, according to STATS. Two years ago, with 169 catches for 2,237 yards and 24 touchdowns, the New England tight ends set NFL records in each category.

Gronkowski has had five operations this offseason on his back and broken left forearm, leaving his future uncertain and New England at least temporarily with five other tight ends expected to be ready for the start of training camp; together they caught a total of nine passes last season. Tim Tebow, a quarterback who may be better suited for tight end, is also an option.

With a single-minded focus on football that has made him one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, the taciturn Bill Belichick has long been willing to take a chance on talented but troubled players in hopes that a fresh start with New England and a winning environment would keep them in line.

In most cases, players are given short-term deals that make it easy for the team to purge them if the problems reappear.

But under the five-year, $41 million contract extension Hernandez signed last year, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, he will cost the Patriots about $4 million under the league's salary cap in 2013. That would include the $1.323 million salary for 2013 plus a pro-rated portion of his signing bonus, according to an NFL agent familiar with the contract who spoke on the condition of anonymity because such details are not public.

Next year's cap hit would be even worse the $7.5 million left on his signing bonus plus his base salary of about $1.1 million, the agent said. The NFL's collective bargaining agreement allows teams to recoup bonus money when a player is incarcerated, but by releasing him the team probably lost the opportunity to take advantage of that provision, the agent said.

An All-American at Florida, Hernandez's behavior in college led him to be red-flagged entering the NFL, when several teams reportedly took him off their draft boards refusing to pick him under any circumstances and enough had questions about his character to let him slide all the way to New England in the fourth round.

Afterward, Hernandez said he had failed a single drug test in college, reportedly for marijuana, and was honest with teams about it.

And the Patriots seemed like the perfect fit.

Even before Belichick became the coach, the organization tried to maintain a delicate balance publicly stressing good character while signing players with questions in their past.

In 1996, New England drafted defensive lineman Christian Peter from Nebraska in the fifth round even though he had been arrested eight times, accused of grabbing one woman around the throat and of sexually assaulting a former Miss Nebraska. "They're not all choir boys in this league," then-coach Bill Parcells said, but the team spurred by the wife of owner Bob Kraft soon relinquished its draft rights to him.

Nor has Belichick shied away from players with troubled pasts more recently, though none faced charges as serious as Hernandez. Among the players signed by the Patriots were receivers Randy Moss and the one known at the time as Chad Ochocinco; defensive backs Alfonzo Dennard, Aqib Talib and Brandon Meriweather; running back Corey Dillon, and offensive lineman Nick Kaczur.

Most had questions about their personal lives before coming to New England, already wearing out their welcome with one or more other NFL teams. Some ran into legal trouble only after signing with New England. Others, like Moss and Dillon, produced on the field for a while before the Patriots grew tired of them, too.

Despite his problems in college, Hernandez seemed to be staying out of trouble in New England. But since Hernandez was connected with Lloyd's death, other issues have become public.

A South Florida man filed a lawsuit last week claiming Hernandez shot him in the face after they argued at a strip club. The man, who lost his right eye, told police after the February incident that he did not know who shot him.

The Boston Globe reported that Hernandez lost his temper and threatened teammate Wes Welker during an argument in the team's weight room shortly after being drafted.

But Hernandez became a father to a daughter on Nov. 6, and he said it made him think.

"I'm engaged now and I have a baby. So it's just going to make me think of life a lot differently and doing things the right way," he said. "Now, another one is looking up to me. I can't just be young and reckless Aaron no more. I'm going to try to do the right things, become a good father and (have her) be raised like I was raised."

It was the first spacewalk for Italy a major contributor to the orbiting lab as Luca Parmitano handled a variety of maintenance chores. He was accompanied by American Christopher Cassidy, a veteran spacewalker.

Cassidy encountered a stubborn bolt, eating up precious minutes, as he got started on the first of two planned spacewalks just a week apart. A slim gap of just one-eighth of an inch stalled the installation of a new space-to-ground radio transmitter. The old one failed in December.

"Nothing jumps out at me," Cassidy reported to Mission Control. "I can see a little wear on the bolt."

Finally, the former Navy SEAL managed to attach the transmitter. Mission Control said it appeared to be a tight fit.

It was smoother going for Parmitano as he collected science experiments for return to Earth later this year aboard a commercial SpaceX capsule.

"Any curve balls over there, Luca?" Cassidy asked. "Nope," came the reply.

The spacewalkers made up for lost time as they went through the hodgepodge of chores, removing a bad camera and relocating radiator grapple bars. Some of the work was done to make it easier to swap out bad parts if there's ever a breakdown.

They hustled through cable work in preparation for a new Russian lab due to arrive in December, and took pictures of the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, a $2 billion cosmic ray detector launched on NASA's next-to-last shuttle mission in 2011. Scientists noticed unusual discoloration on its radiators and requested photos of the instrument, which is anchored to the station.

Parmitano found it awkward to secure a protective cover over a docking port used by NASA's space shuttles until their retirement two years ago. The cover is meant to shield against micrometeorite strikes.

"It's kind of like when you're trying to make your bed by yourself. One side is a little bit shorter than the other," Parmitano said.

Before ending their six-hour excursion, the astronauts got a jump on work intended for a second spacewalk next Tuesday.

"A really great day," Mission Control radioed up.

NASA said the tasks had been piling up over the past couple of years. Managers wanted to wait until the to-do list was long before committing to the time-consuming spacewalks.

Parmitano, 36, a major in the Italian Air Force, arrived at the space station at the end of May for a six-month stay.

Cassidy, 43, will wrap up his half-year mission in September.

The rest of the space station crew one American and three Russians assisted the spacewalkers from inside.

This was the fourth spacewalk this year with five more planned, mostly by Russians. In all, 170 spacewalks have been performed over the past 15 years at the space station, totaling nearly 1,074 hours or 45 days.

Prosecutor Gaetano Ruta told a court during closing arguments Wednesday that the pair had evaded taxes on 416 million euros each and 200 million through a Luxembourg-based company.

The statute of limitations has run out on another charge of misrepresenting income.

A judge two years ago threw out a tax evasion and fraud case against the pair, whose label Dolce&Gabbana is a mainstay of Milan fashion. But Italy's high court, ruling on prosecutor's objections, later said the pair could be prosecuted for tax evasion, though not for fraud.

Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway's line that carries oil from Montreal through Maine destined for Irving Oil's St. John, New Brunswick refinery has been shut since a crude train derailed in Lac-Megantic early Saturday.

About 50 people are either confirmed dead, or are still missing, likely turning the accident into North America's worst rail disaster since 1989.

Transportation Safety Board lead investigator Don Ross said in a press conference the line would be out of service for "a while, until this gets cleared up."

"Those services from Montreal through this area, Quebec, to the neighboring states is affected until we get it up and running," he told reporters.

The MMA train had been carrying crude from North Dakota to the 300,000 barrel per day (bpd) Irving Oil refinery. Officials from Maine's Department of Transportation said on Monday they had no plans to halt shipments of oil by rail through the state despite the Lac-Megantic disaster.

The MMA line carried more than 15,600 barrels per day (bpd) of crude through Maine in March, according to state data. A separate line owned by Pan Am Railways, took just over 12,400 bpd during that month.

Crude oil continues to flow through Maine to New Brunswick from points south along the railroad tracks owned by Pan Am Railways, which last year railed about 6,300 bpd of crude through the state.

Pan Am's line enters southwestern Maine in Berwick then runs northeastward through Portland and Waterville to Mattawamkeag, where deliveries are handed off to Maine, Montreal and Atlantic's line before crossing into New Brunswick, Canada.

"It's a tragedy, and we've reached out to MMA and offered to do whatever we can to help them," Pan Am vice president Cynthia Scarano told Reuters.

"But there's been no interruption in our service," she said.

Forecasters said temperatures in sunbaked Las Vegas shot up to 115 degrees on Saturday afternoon, two degrees short of the city's all-time record.

Phoenix hit 119 degrees by mid-afternoon, breaking the record for June 29 that was set in 1994. And large swaths of California sweltered under extreme heat warnings, which are expected to last into Tuesday night and maybe even longer.

The forecast for Death Valley called for 128 degrees Saturday, but it was 3 degrees shy of that, according to unofficial reports from the National Weather Service. Death Valley's record high of 134 degrees, set a century ago, stands as the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth.

A couple hours south in Baker, the temperature peaked at an unofficial 117 degrees in the road tripper's oasis in the Mojave Desert on Interstate 15. The strip of gas stations and restaurants between Los Angeles and Las Vegas is known by travelers for the giant thermometer that often notes temperatures in the triple digits.

At the Mad Greek restaurant there, a waitress called out orders for "Chocolate shake! Strawberry shake!" while the temperature hovered at 112 degrees during the lunch rush.

In Southern California, Riverside saw 105 degrees, and Palm Springs reached 122 degrees. At Lancaster Fox Field in Los Angeles County, temperatures reached 111, a record.

To make matters worse, National Weather Service meteorologists John Dumas said cooling ocean breezes haven't been traveling far enough inland overnight to fan Southern California's overheated valleys and deserts.

Burbank set a record overnight low with temperatures dipping to 74 degrees overnight, much warmer than the previous record of 68 degrees for Saturday's early hours.

In Northern California, temperatures Saturday reached the upper 90s in San Jose. Farther north, triple-digit temps were reached in downtown Sacramento on Saturday, according to the weather service.

Authorities say a man died and another was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas fire and rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski says paramedics responded to a home with no air conditioning and found an elderly man dead. He says while the man had medical issues, paramedics thought his condition was aggravated by the heat.

Paramedics say another elderly man was on a long trip in his car when the air conditioning went out. Paramedics say he taken to the hospital in serious condition with heat stroke after he stopped in Las Vegas.

Cooling stations were set up to shelter the homeless and elderly people who can't afford to run their air conditioners. In Phoenix, Joe Arpaio, the famously hard-nosed sheriff who runs a tent jail, planned to distribute ice cream and cold towels to inmates this weekend.

Officials said personnel were added to the Border Patrol's search-and-rescue unit because of the danger to people trying to slip across the Mexican border. At least seven people have been found dead in the last week in Arizona after falling victim to the brutal desert heat.

Temperatures are also expected to soar across Utah and into Wyoming and Idaho, with triple-digit heat forecast for the Boise area. Cities in Washington state that are better known for cool, rainy weather should break the 90s next week.

The heat was so punishing that rangers took up positions at trailheads at Lake Mead in Nevada to persuade people not to hike. Zookeepers in Phoenix hosed down the elephants and fed tigers frozen fish snacks. Dogs were at risk of burning their paws on scorched pavement, and airlines kept close watch on the heat for fear that it could cause flights to be delayed.
