Causes And Consequences

Causes And Consequences

Do you bite your nails often? Do you find it difficult to stop? Then welcome to the club. Nail biting is common among children although adults are not exempted from this nervous habit. Famous nail biters include Britney Spears, Eva Mendez, Lisa Marie Presley, and Elijah Wood. Nail biting is common among children although adults are not exempted from this nervous habit. Famous nail biters include Britney Spears, Eva Mendez, Lisa Marie Presley, and Elijah Wood.

Nail biting or chronic onychophagia is the act of biting the cuticle, the soft tissue around the nail or the nail itself. It occurs in 28 to 33 percent of children ages 7 10 years old, 44 percent of adolescents, 19 to 29 percent of young adults, and five percent of older adults, according to Terry M. McClanahan in his study titled Learning Principles Applied to Nail Biting.

Another study says it is common in 45 60 percent of children aged eight to 11 and tends to peak between the ages of 10 and 18.

This irritating habit is more common in boys than girls, and can be seen during periods of nervousness, stress, hunger, boredom or lack of activities. In some cases, it can be a sign of a mental or emotional disorder.

Most of the time, it is harmless habit that children eventually outgrow. In both children and adults, however, nail biting usually occurs unconsciously when the person is doing something else like reading a book or watching TV.

biting is often considered to be a common reaction to stress. A child or even an adult uses nail biting as a coping mechanism to relieve pent up emotions. Dr. Ronald Bronow, a dermatologist in private practice and assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, says nail biting is a habitual condition, a common reaction to stress and boredom. Nail biters could also suffer from a poor self image or could be punishing themselves for deeper rooted problems or anxieties. Basically, nail biting is a rational substitution of one problem for another. In many instances nail biting is used as a tension reliever.

has been documented that some people bite their nails in their sleep, sometimes exclusively. This has been linked to stress while dreaming or stress from the dream or simply stress in general. It is considered the most widespread form of mild self mutilation, according to Wikipedia.

Apart from being unsanitary, nail biting has its own share of adverse effects. Nail biting can easily carry bacteria and other germs from the nails to the mouth. Broken skin can also be susceptible to viral and bacterial infections.

a nail has been bitten too far in, bleeding might occur at the grooves or cuticles. More extremely the constant wetting of the finger can lead to yeast infection of the nail and oral herpes can actually begin to grow on the finger. Ridging, nail deformity and even nail loss can happen.

The first step in stopping this habit is to identify what causing it and resolving whatever problems you have. To stop fungal infections arising from nail biting, use Somasin AFS. This powerful herbal formula strengthens the immune system and stops stubborn nail infections in just seven days.

I too have been nail biting as long as I can remember and I will be 70 years old in the near future. I am in excellent health. Anyway, recently my daughter chose to give up smoking and I decided since that is such a difficult thing to do I would give no nailbiting a whirl to support her.

So what I did was give myself a manicure and put on clear nail polish.

I have a little manicure box very handy to where I sit and can just grab it. Every morning I give myself a once over and a slight fileling just to get any possible snag. The snags always did me in! So far it has been three weeks. My nails are short but seem healthy. I too have ridges and weakness. Somehow when I attempt to put a finger in my mouth it feels different with nail polish and that is an attention getter for me. Just remember that you are not alone!

I think I have been biting my nails since I was about 3 years old. maybe a little bit younger, one of my earliest memories is from biting my nails. I actually think the cause of biting my nails was out of fear of my mum cutting them for me when i was really young, she'd sit me down and try to cut them, and as children do, I would cry and scream in fear she'd accidently cut my fingers off. I don't think nail biting is down to 'bad parenting' that's just a stereotype. I think naturally i'm quite neurotic at times anyway. but I do it subconciously and I REALLY can't stop, no matter how hard I try. wholesale nfl jerseys

I am 19 years old; I've been biting my nails since I was about nine. It has been very difficult to stop biting them. Usually when I am frustrated or stressed out, I have an urge to start biting my nails. In the past, I have tried to stop but this would only last for about two weeks before I would bite down my nails again. Around three weeks ago, I decided to start painting my nails, since I've heard this is a method to help stop nail biting. I don't really like nail polish, so I only used a clear coat, and I've notice some improvement. My nails are not as flimsy as there were previously, and I have managed to grow decent sized nails. I still sometimes nibble on them, but I catch myself before I do any real damage. Hopefully in a few months I can completely stop biting my nails. china cheap nfl jerseys

I am 19 years old and I have been biting my nails for as long as I can remember. Actually I don't just bite my nails. I chew on the skin on the sides of my nails, I chew on my fingers, pens, pencils, just basically anything around that I can chew on. I don't know why I do this, it could be stress or boredom, I have no clue. I do know that I want to stop but anything I do does not help. My parents were not perfect, and still aren't, but they weren't THAT bad. I'm the youngest of 3 and I got put down emotionally and beat physically alot by my older siblings but I don't believe that is the cause of my problem. It was brought to my attention recently that nail biting is also a symptom of ADHD, but I don't put much thought into that because apparenlty everyone has some form of ADHD or ADD. Anyways, I don't really much care about the reason as to why I do this, I'm just worried about how to stop it.

The parents are mean? That's entirely a stereotype. And wrong. I have been biting my nails for as long as I can remember, and for as long as I can remember my parents have been trying to help me stop. They were kind and loving parents, who gave me love and affection, and all the emotional support I needed, whenever I needed it. I know it's a filthy habit and I've been trying to stop forever. It's a habit of stress. And the stress and anxiety comes from the outside world. Our world is angry and hateful. Filled with people who hate each other and hate themselves. They insult and humiliate others whenever the chance arises. Oh, and if you can do it publicly, even better! To an child this energy is powerful and engulfing, as we grow we learn to ignore the hatred of the world and focus on ourselves. But the anxiety never goes away. People always blame the parents, because it's easy.

(part 7)In conclusion nail biting for me was a big waste of time, had an additional effect on my self esteem, and gave me fungal infections, candida, which is horrible to have. I didn't eat rice, pasta, bread, and other carbs for 3 months, and took b vitamins, probiotic and drank strong garlic shakes to get rid of the fungus.

When someone puts you down take it with a grain of salt and see who is the one doing the criticizing. There are always envious people in this world so I take their jealousy as a compliment! Then ignore and shun those people so that you can go on smoothly with your life.

(part 5)Children do no have critical abilities plus they have to obey cause their survival depends on the parents. Once I got around 20 I could understand better and look over my shoulders. When I was 21 I came back from holidays with my friends. I was so happy, jovial. had lost some weight, had a glowing tan, and long perfect manicured nails. My mother got in such a rage about other things in my life, trying to manipulate me and put me down. She even took my left hand and tried to snap the nail of my ring finger. A bit later it all made sense to me! But not to impressionable, sensitive young kids! nfl jerseys china

(part4) When I was younger my mother(i don't even want to call that criminal that), now I realize, used to put me down a lot. I mean every 2 minutes some demoralizing, insulting, indirect, put down comment would fly my way. But when you are a child you trust your parents cause you think they want the best for you. A child has total trust they are in the care of the people who made them, but the reality is different. They think they are doing something wrong, they don't want to upset their parents.

(part 3) They think they won when the other suffers. It's survival mentality. Animalistic, raging, primitive, ignorant, arrogant, maniac, sociopaths, un cultured, unable to be happy for the success or good luck of others. The opposite is self expression, happiness, self realization in life.

I remember that she and my father would not allow self expression. If i liked a song on the radio as a kid and started singing they would make me shut up, and go further suggesting that singing was a shame. china wholesale nfl jerseys

(part 2)At one point she wanted to make me fat. And she even told me that some mothers do that cause they get jealous when the daughters get pretty as they grow. We are born into families but it is no gaurantee that the parent is a good person. Some people are so psycho and selfish that they want all other people around them to suffer. Family, togetherness have no meaning for them. They can act in front of other visiting relatives to save their face, but they are fake. Traits of a mental disorder are "manipulation, lying, wanting attention, control etc etc" which all lead to violence and the desire of the crazy person to have caused suffering on other people.

(part 1)My mother bites her nails. When I was really young I thought she was nuts with no self control. Then she would make me bite them as a game when I was about 4 5 years old. Making it look like it was fun, because she was envious that i could see through her that she was mean. Now i hate her for that. But children at that age even if they sense something is wrong they obey their parents. When I grew up I realized that older people do not always have the best intentions of their children in mind. So i agree with some of the previous commenters. And my mother has been a hell witch in my life, physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, straightforward manipulation, subtle manipulation, controlling behaviour to make me argue with my sister.

I also bite my nails a lot and i think it started when i was really young when my dad used to hit me with cables, wires, leather belts or anything he could find every so often when he used to come home and now it became a habit whenever i get nervous or stressful about any situation i bite my nails and cant stop till they hurt.

Idk if any one has ever gone through the same situation that i have that caused me to bite my nails and now i even bite the skin off of my fingers.

Chanel Spring 2011 Ready

Chanel Spring 2011 Ready wholesale mlb jerseys china

Karl Lagerfeld gets a lot of his inspiration from dreams, but he didn't need any help from them today, because he already had Last Year at Marienbad, that hallucinatory slice of avant garde celluloid from the early sixties, on his mind. Some would say that, despite its storied reputation, it's the most boring movie ever made, but for Lagerfeld Chanel inspired a breathtakingly surreal setting: a monochrome ornamental garden, complete with fountains, which mirrored one of the film's most famous scenes. A full orchestra of 80 musicians sawed through romantic arrangements of Bj the Verve, and John "007" Barry to soundtrack the 18 minute show (positively epic by today's ADD standards). The models, meanwhile, paraded in a carefully schematic way that had a little of Marienbad's arch, rigorous formality. It all conspired to make the boldness of the clothes even more audacious. mlb jerseys china

It was as though Lagerfeld had taken scissors to Chanel maybe unleashed a cloud of ninja moths. The first outfits were riddled with holes that recalled Rei Kawakubo's "new lace," so radical in the early eighties. After the show, the designer said new fabrics were one of his touchstones for the collection, but he distressed them with selvedge, ragged edges, and a lattice of perforations. That chaotic quality persisted in d chiffon florals or a monochrome tweed patchwork. The classic suit was reconfigured as a swingy A line jacket with three quarter sleeves and shorts as often as skirts. Almost everything had an unfinished feel, a thready, feathered edge. It loaned an enthralling urgency, and the fierce young spirit in the collection could be read as a swingeing riposte to the cutesiness that sometimes overtakes Chanel's ready to wear. There were more than 80 models in the show, and each outfit created a character so individual that the clothes truly held their own against the majestic backdrop. china cheap mlb jerseys

Marienbad seeded the collection in another way. Coco Chanel herself designed Delphine Seyrig's clothes for the film, and they were echoed in a final passage of black lace dresses tufted with coq feathers. It was a slightly wild detail that made a perfect capstone to this captivating show, even more so when the sea of black was interrupted by Carmen Kass, undulating down the surreal all in a quivering cloud of apricot feathers. cheap mlb jerseys china
