Joanette Benjamin learned the meaning of making the grade the hard way. She never thought it would happen to her, but when poor grades sidelined her last year for the first eight games of the Orlando Oak Ridge basketball season, Benjamin got a jolt of reality she will never forget.

She used the extra time to reflect on her attitude toward the things she valued most, and decided to make some major changes. What a difference those resolutions have made a year later in Benjamin's performances in the classroom and on the basketball court, her latest ventures earning her Orange Sentinel player of the week honors.
