This weekend, you can watch Broadway’s longest-running musical at zero the cost. To keep theater fans entertained during the coronavirus pandemic, Andrew Lloyd Webber launched a Youtube channel earlier this month with some of his most beloved productions streaming for free to online audiences all around the world. Webber’s iconic musical “The Phantom of the Opera” is this weekend’s pick, and it’s available to stream for free starting today and running through Sunday.
The musical, largely considered to be one of Webber’s biggest hits, follows the romance between a young singer and a mask-wearing musical genius living below the Paris Opera House. The version streaming on Webber’s The Shows Must Go On Youtube channel is 2011’s 25th anniversary celebration of “The Phantom of the Opera” at the Royal Albert Hall.
The production stars Ramin Karimloo, Sierra Boggess, Hadley Fraser, Wendy Ferguson, Liz Robertson, Daisy Maywood, Barry James, Gareth Snook, Wynne Evans, Nick Holder and Earl Carpenter. It’s directed by Laurence Connor and inspired by the original production’s staging, and includes 200 cast and orchestra members. The version available for streaming on Youtube is made up of three different performances from the 2011 production all edited together to create a film.
“The Phantom of the Opera” marks the third production Webber has offered for streaming on Youtube. He began his series of free musicals on April 3 with “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and later on April 10, “Jesus Christ Superstar. ” Webber has also been uploading behind-the-scenes footage and scenes from other musical performances to Youtube for theater fans to enjoy.
“The Phantom of the Opera” begins streaming Friday at 2/1c and runs on The Show Must Go On Youtube channel for 48 hours in the U. S. and 24 hours in the U. K. To watch, you can click on the video above, or go to Webber’s Youtube page and play it from there.

This isn't a bad adaptation, I agree with the other review that I read that the sets were spectacular! However, Christine and The Phantom were somewhat lacking for me. Both of them seemed to be trying too hard, and that just really chaps at me. I don't like to see people trying to prove themselves, it should just be something natural. Plus the makeup on The Phantom was too distracting, seeing his lips hangout from underneath the mask pulled my attention way from the story too much. I kept on rechecking to see if I really was seeing his lips or what right up until the final time his mask was pulled off. When they pulled out the other men who had played The Phantom, both my wife and I commented at how much better singers all of them were than the guy that played him in this rendition. We both also think that the Christine and Phantom from the 2004 movie were both more natural sounding and looking, I just cannot say enough how important it is to me that the actor/actress appear natural in their role. Perhaps the theater is the wrong place to expect that, but then again so many of the other actors in this rendition gave such natural performances, even the two opera house owners (which was not impressed upon me from the recording featuring the original cast. I know I've spent so much space talking about what I didn't like, but I think it deserves stronger detailing this time. The production truly was otherwise first rate! I even enjoyed the little speech from Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I saw "Just Mercy" a few days ago at the Philadelphia Film Festival and was blown away by the film. and I consider it to be one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. I could easily see the picture receiving several Oscar nominations- especially for acting. Imagine my suprise when I looked on IMDB and saw a score of 5.6 and some negative reviews! I am not exactly sure what this is all about and perhaps it's because there are some angry pro-capital punishment folks or some who simply hate a film with a mostly black cast. All I know is that the film is a quality production and kept my interest throughout.

The story is based on the work of Bryan Stevenson, a Harvard graduate who chose to move to Alabama and work for a small salary to help examine the convictions of men on death who in some cases were not guilty at all. How could anyone NOT applaud this sort of thing?

Overall, a brilliantly written film that made me sad and angry. and I love when a film effects me that way. The acting was top-notch, the story magnificent and the writing amazing. Just ignore all the negativity and see this one. you'll be happy you did. As for me, I'd consider this perhaps the best American film of the 's THAT good.

This is a story and a problem that needs more focus. Equal justice under the law for all Americans.
An important film for our times about racial injustice and the cruelty that is the US criminal justice system. Very moving and powerful. Wonderful performances from the two main leads - Jordan and Foxx, with strong supporting performances from Brie Larson and Rafe Spall. Recommend to anyone who wants to become a lawyer or is just interested in US politics and history.
