この前、着付教室の生徒さんが、
「きちんと着られたとき、着物がピタッと体に沿った瞬間が、すごく気持ちよかったです」
と話してくれました。

腰紐の位置ひとつとっても、
教科書どおりに決めるのではなく、
自分の身体と相談しながら、一番しっくりくる場所を探して着る。

そうやって着ると、
着物は窮屈なものではないんだ、ということが
自然とわかったそうです。

別の生徒さんも、
「教科書通りじゃなくて、自分の位置が見つかったときが、一番気持ちいいですね」
と言ってくれて。

それを聞いて、私はとても嬉しくなりました。

最近、アロマのお話を聞く機会がありました。
好きな香り、なぜか苦手な香りから、
その時の体調や心の状態がわかることがあるそうです。

「良い・悪い」ではなく、
今の自分がどう感じているのかを知ること。

香りも、着物も、
自分の感覚に気づくための入り口なのかもしれません。

そんな話を聞いて、
2/12に、アロマと一緒に
「自分の感覚に目を向ける時間」をつくることにしました。

技術を詰め込む日ではなく、
呼吸を感じて、
体の声を聞いて、
今の自分にとって心地いいところを探す時間です。

Hi, I’m HANA,

The other day, one of my kimono students told me,
“When I finally wore it properly, the moment the kimono fit my body perfectly felt so good.”

Instead of following the textbook exactly,
she tried listening to her body
and finding the position that felt most comfortable for her.

That’s when she realized
a kimono doesn’t have to be uncomfortable.

Another student said something similar:
“When I find my position, not the textbook one, it feels really good.”

Hearing that made me very happy.

Recently, I listened to a talk about aromatherapy.
I was told that the scents you like — and the ones you don’t —
can reflect your current physical or emotional condition.

It’s not about good or bad.
It’s about noticing how you feel right now.

In that sense,
aroma and kimono feel very similar to me.
Both help you reconnect with your own senses.

That’s why on February 12,
I’m hosting a special session combining kimono and aromatherapy.

This is not a day to push yourself or chase perfection.
It’s a time to breathe, relax,
and find what feels just right for you.

こんにちは、HANAです。

今日は、最近あったちょっとした出来事をシェアしますね。

『着物で町おこし』について考えていた時、
「もっと多くの日野市民にこの活動を知ってもらう方法はないかな？」
と調べていたら、日野市のビジネスコンテストの募集を知りました。

うまく賞を取れたら市の広報誌に掲載されると知って、
「ならば！」と、思い切って応募しました。

結果は――グランプリではないけれど、賞をいただきました。
そして無事に広報誌に載れることになりました～。
まずは、出場の目的が達成されました。

4月発行の日野市広報誌に、私のプランと名前が掲載される予定です。
公式に町へ届くのは少し先だけど、
読んだ方の中に、少しでも反応してくれる人がいたら嬉しいなと思っています。

今回の応募で何より嬉しかったのは、
たくさんの方と出会えたことでした。
町のこと、文化のこと、未来のことを一緒に話せる人が増えたのは、
私にとって大きな収穫です。

この経験は、
“よし、頑張ろう” と気持ちを整えてくれるきっかけになりました。

これからも、着物と日野の町をつなぐ活動を続けていきますね。

Hi, I’m HANA,

and I hope to share and preserve Japanese culture through kimono dressing.
 

Today, I’d like to share a small update from the past few weeks.

While thinking about “revitalizing the town through kimono,”
I wondered, “How can I let more people in Hino know about this activity?”
As I was looking into different options, I found the announcement for the Hino City Business Contest.

I learned that if I could win a prize, my plan would be introduced in the city newsletter.
So I thought, “Alright then, let’s try!” and decided to apply.

The result—
I didn’t win the Grand Prize, but I did receive an award.
And thanks to that, my plan will be featured in the newsletter.
My initial goal was reached.

My project and my name will be published in the April issue of the Hino City Newsletter.
It will take a little more time before it officially reaches the community,
but I hope it brings even a small positive reaction from someone who reads it.

What made me happiest through this contest was the people I met.
I gained new connections with people who care about the town, its culture, and its future.
That was a big gift for me.

This experience has given me a gentle push—
a feeling of “Alright, let’s keep going.”

I’ll continue working to connect kimono with the town of Hino.

着物でお出かけするには、今はとてもいい季節。

紅葉が枯れ始める様子もまた、しっとりと美しいですね。

これからどんどん寒くなっていくけれど、実は着物は“暑いより寒い”ほうが相性がいいんです。

今は極暖ヒートテックなどもあるし、工夫すれば冬こそ快適に楽しめますよ。

着物をビシッと着こなす方を見るとうっとりしますよね。

でも、あの“うっとり感”に近づくには――何度も着るしかない！

特別じゃない日に、気分のままに着物を着て過ごしてみる。

そうやって重ねていくうちに、着物があなたの体に、気持ちに、だんだん寄り添ってくれるようになります。

シワも、お太鼓のゆがみも、脱いだ後の“反省材料”。

それって前向きな成長の合図です。

じゃんじゃん着ましょね。

寒い季節こそ、着物が一番の味方になりますよ。

Good evening, this is HANA.

I just realized it’s been about two weeks since my last letter.

It’s such a lovely season to go out in kimono.

Even the moment when autumn leaves begin to fade has its own quiet beauty.

The weather will keep getting colder, but actually—kimono works better in the cold than in the heat.

With things like Heattech, winter is surprisingly comfortable and enjoyable for kimono.

When you see someone wearing kimono beautifully, it makes you sigh in admiration, doesn’t it?

But to get closer to that level, there’s only one way — you just have to wear it again and again!

Try wearing kimono on ordinary days, simply because you feel like it.

As you keep doing that, the kimono starts to fit your body and your feelings more naturally.

Wrinkles or a slightly crooked otaiko?

Those are just “notes for next time” after you take it off —

signs that you’re growing and learning.

So let’s keep wearing kimono often.

In the cold season, kimono becomes your best companion.

月曜日に、とても雅な時間を過ごしてきました。
「着袴の儀（ちゃっこのぎ）」といって、七五三のルーツにもなった古い通過儀礼を再現した、十二単のショー。
会場は能楽堂✨

一緒に行った生徒さんや友人も、とても楽しんでくれたようで、誘って本当によかったなと思いました。

でも私は見ながら改めて感じたの。――十二単って、まったくもって実用的じゃない！😂
あまりにも季節感や美を追求しすぎて、あのスタイルになったのかしら？
そもそもどうして「十二単」という形が生まれたのか？

そんな不思議な疑問がいくつも浮かんできて、面白かった。

でね、同時に思ったのです。
十二単の感性は、今の着物文化にもしっかり残ってるなって。
季節や用途、そして人との関係性までを“装いで表す”という考え方が、
今の着物にも脈々と受け継がれていますね。

そんな感性も、日常に着る着物に宿したい。
“特別な日”だけでなく、“今日という一日”にも美しさを添えられるように。
そっとテーブルに季節の花を飾るように、季節を“普段着”で表現するのも悪くないよね。

On Monday, I spent a truly elegant day.
I attended a chakko no gi (Coming-of-Age Ceremony for putting on hakama),
which is said to be the origin of today’s Shichi-Go-San celebration.
It was a Heian-style jūnihitoe performance held at a Noh theater.

My students and friends who came with me seemed to really enjoy it,
and I was so glad I invited them.

But as I watched, I couldn’t help thinking—
the jūnihitoe is completely impractical! 😂
Maybe it became that way because people pursued beauty and seasonal expression too deeply.
Or perhaps there was another reason that this style came to exist?

Those questions kept popping into my mind—and I found them fascinating.

Then another thought came to me.
The aesthetic sense behind the jūnihitoe still lives in today’s kimono culture.
The idea of expressing seasons, occasions, and even relationships through one’s attire
has been quietly passed down to the present day.

And I want to carry that same sensibility into the kimono we wear in everyday life.
Not only for special occasions, but to add a touch of beauty to this very day.
Like placing a small seasonal flower on the table—
it’s lovely to express the seasons through our “everyday kimono,” isn’t it? 🌸

On Monday, October 27th, I’ll be hosting a special kimono outing to Takahata Fudoson and Tama Zoo.

This time, a professional photographer will be joining us 📸

きっと最初の反応は、「着物の町？はぁ？」かもしれません（笑）
でもね、私は思うんです。
着物を「遠い存在」と感じている人の中にも、
実は心のどこかで「いいな」と思っている人がいるはず。

街の中でふと着物姿の人を見かけたとき、
季節の色や音と重なって、少し気持ちが柔らかくなる——
そんな瞬間、ありますよね。
それが一人、二人と増えていったら、
きっと町の空気が少しずつ変わっていくと思うんです。
「着物民」がわらわらと（笑）歩いているだけで、
商店街の景色も、すれ違う人の表情も、
ほんの少し明るくなる気がして。
そうやって心の中の“着物に対する気持ち”が変わっていけば、
「久しぶりに着てみようかな」と思う人も増える。
それがまた次の流れを生んで、
日野の町全体が少しずつ“着物の似合う町”になっていく。
そして、もっと欲を言えば——
この流れが多摩地域へ、東京全体へと広がっていって、
もう一度“着物文化”が花開く日が来たら。
そんな未来を、心から描いています🌸
欲張りかな？（笑）

でも、どんな大きな変化も最初の一歩から。
いまはその小さな一歩を踏み出したところです。

あなたの町には、どんな“文化の芽”がありますか？
もし何か「これが好き」「これを残したい」という想いがあれば、
その一歩が誰かの心を動かすきっかけになるかもしれません✨

It all started with a simple thought —

what if kimono could bring new life and color back to my town, Hino?

For years, I’ve worked with kimono in weddings and lessons,

but lately I’ve felt that kimono has the power to do something even more:

to connect people, to remind us of beauty in everyday life,

and to make the streets feel just a little warmer.

So I decided to take a step forward —

I applied for the Hino City Business Plan Contest! 👘✨

Not because I’m chasing a big prize,

but because I want more people to hear this small idea of mine:

that kimono could be part of our daily scenery again.

At first, I’m sure people will say, “Kimono town? Really?” (laughs)

But I truly believe there are many who secretly love kimono deep down.

When you see someone walking gracefully in kimono,

something softens inside you — it’s like a gentle reminder

of how beautiful slow moments can be.

If more people begin to feel that way,

the atmosphere of the town will slowly change.

More kimono people on the streets, more smiles,

and little by little, Hino could become a town where kimono naturally belongs.

And if I dare to dream bigger —

maybe this gentle movement will spread through Tama,

and one day, kimono culture will bloom again across Tokyo 🌸

Maybe I’m being a little greedy (haha),

but every big change starts with a small step.

And this is mine — my very first step.

📢 Upcoming Kimono Outing!

On Monday, October 27th, I’ll be hosting a small kimono stroll in Hino!

We’ll visit Takahata Fudoson Temple first,

and then take a relaxing walk to Tama Zoological Park together 🐾🍁👘

It’s a lovely way to enjoy the autumn air in kimono.

Everyone’s welcome — whether it’s your first time wearing kimono or not!

一昨日、体験クラスのデモをしました。

今回のモデルさんは日本人のお二人と私の生徒さん。

ひとりは、普段は着付けをお願いして着ているけれど、浴衣くらいは自分で着たことがある方。
もうひとりはお茶を習っていて、着物はたまに着るけれど、ほとんど自装はしない方。以前、着付け教室に通ったこともあったそうです。

そんなお二人が「またきちんと習いたい」と言ってくれたこと、とても嬉しく思いました。

さらに、お茶をされている方からはこんなコメントをいただきました。

写真を見て「あの時こうだったな」「ここはやっぱり苦手なんだな」と改めて感じました。
だから着物から少し遠ざかっていたんだな、と気づいたんです。
でもHANAさんが楽しそうに教えてくださったからこそ、緊張せずに楽しく取り組めました！
今後は、いつも気になる部分をどう直したらいいか覚えて練習していきたいです。

とても心に残る感想でした。
「楽しんで習ってくれた」ということが、何より嬉しくて、最高のご褒美だなと思います。

お二人とも本当にすっごく真剣に取り組んでいて、その空気感はカメラマンさんの写真にもはっきりと写っていました。
やっぱり体験会にはカメラマンさんが入ってくださると、雰囲気も残せるし、おさらいにもなっていいなと改めて感じました。

写真を見返しながら、私自身もとても楽しい時間だったなと感じています。

The other day, I held a demo class.

This time, I had three models: two Japanese women and one of my students.

One usually has someone dress her in kimono, but she has at least worn a yukata by herself before.
The other practices tea ceremony and sometimes wears kimono, but she rarely dresses herself. She had once attended a kimono class before.

Both of them told me, “I want to learn properly again.” I was so happy to hear that.

One of them, who studies tea ceremony, shared these words with me:

Looking at the photos, I realized, “Ah, that’s how it was then… This part is still hard for me, that’s why I’ve been avoiding kimono.”
But because you, HANA, looked like you were really enjoying teaching, I didn’t feel stiff or nervous, and I could enjoy myself too.
From now on, I want to remember how to fix the parts I always struggle with and practice them.

Her words truly touched me.
To me, the greatest reward is knowing someone could genuinely enjoy learning kimono dressing.

Both of them were so focused and serious during the class, and that atmosphere was perfectly captured in the photographer’s photos.
It reminded me how wonderful it is to have a photographer at trial lessons—it helps us relive the experience and also makes for a great review tool.

As I looked back at the photos, I realized once again how much I enjoyed that time too.

先日、上野の東京国立博物館で開催中の「大奥展」に行ってきました。
目を奪うほど繊細な刺繍の施された着物やふくさ、ため息の出るような調度品、日々をやり過ごすために考えられた手遊びの道具たち。

小柄な女性たちが実際にまとっていたとわかる、意外なほど小さな着物も印象的でした。
展示物は素晴らしかったのですが、私はどうしても「大奥」という場の窮屈さを考えてしまって…。
豪華な暮らしの裏には、嫉妬や駆け引き、孤独が渦巻いていたんじゃないかな、と想像してしまうと、展示を純粋に楽しめず「失敗したなぁ」と思いました。

ちなみにその日は雨だったので私は洋服でしたが、会場には着物姿の方もちらほらいらっしゃいました。
「大奥展」というテーマだからか、

いつも美術館で見かける華やかな装いよりも、

落ち着いた雰囲気の着物が多かったように感じました。
それが博物館という場の空気なのか、それとも私の思い込みなのか…そんな違いを眺めるのもまた楽しかったです。

そして、ここでお知らせです。
10月27日（月）に、日野の高幡不動尊か多摩動物園で紅葉を楽しむお散歩企画を予定しています。
もしかしたら紅葉はまだ早いかもしれませんが、今回は和洋ミックスな感じで、元気いっぱいのお出かけ会にしたいと思っています。

着物が着られなくても大丈夫。
「ちょっと興味ある」というだけでもご参加OKです。

手ぶらで着付体験や、
着付け教室に興味がある方にも
いいきっかけになると思います。

Good evening.
This is HANA, doing hair & makeup and kimono dressing.

The other day, I went to the “Ōoku Exhibition” at the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno.
There were beautifully embroidered kimonos and fukusa, breathtaking furnishings, and little handcrafts that women once used to pass their time.
The kimonos were surprisingly small, showing how petite the women really were.
The exhibits were truly wonderful, but I couldn’t stop thinking about how restricted life in the Ōoku must have been.
Behind all the luxury, there must have been jealousy, schemes, and loneliness. Thinking of that made it hard for me to enjoy the exhibition purely—so in a way, I felt I “failed.”
It was raining that day, so I went in Western clothes.
But I noticed several visitors wearing kimono. Perhaps because of the theme, their outfits were more subdued compared to the glamorous styles I often see in art museums.
Maybe that’s just the museum atmosphere—or maybe it’s my own bias. Either way, it was fun to observe the difference.

And now, an announcement!
On Monday, October 27, I’m planning an autumn outing in Hino—either to Takahata Fudoson Temple or Tama Zoo—to enjoy the autumn colors.
The leaves may not be at their peak yet, but I’d like to make it a cheerful outing with a mix of Japanese and Western styles.

Even if you can’t dress yourself in kimono, it’s totally fine.
If you’re simply curious, you’re very welcome to join!

ちょっとどうでもいい話なんですが…
みなさん爪をどのくらいの頻度で切っていますか？
最近はネイルをきれいにしている方も多いですよね。
でも私は“白い部分”が見えてくるのがどうしても嫌で、ついすぐ切ってしまいます。

深爪一歩手前くらいが落ち着くんです。

マニキュア💅を塗ったこともあるのですが、

どうも指先が息できないような気がして苦手で…。
しかも、以前何度か塗っていたら爪が裂けてしまったことがあって、それ以来ちょっと怖いんです。
それに、仕事柄どうしても長い爪は無理ですね。
お客様の着物や自分の着物に引っかけてしまいそうで。

私は生来のおっちょこちょい（もはや死語 笑）なので、できるだけリスクは減らしておきたいと思っています。
一応、甘皮処理くらいはしていますけれど。

指先がきれいな方を見ると憧れます。
落ち着いていて、大人の雰囲気がありますよね。
私はどうもそわそわしていて、着物姿もなんとなく「雑」に見えてしまう。
少しでも“きれいな着物美人”に近づきたいなぁ。

Good evening.
This is HANA, doing hair & makeup and kimono dressing.

A small, random question… how often do you cut your nails?
These days, so many women keep their nails beautifully done.
But me—I can’t stand it when the “white part” starts to show.
So I always cut them very short, almost to the point of being too short. That’s when I feel most comfortable.
I’ve tried wearing nail polish 💅 before.
But it felt like my fingertips couldn’t breathe, and I couldn’t stand it.
Once, after painting them a few times, my nails even cracked—and that was enough to scare me away.
Also, in my work, long nails just don’t work.
They would easily catch on a customer’s kimono—or even my own.
And since I’m naturally occhokochoi (a clumsy type—this Japanese word is kind of old-fashioned, haha), I’d rather reduce any risks as much as I can.
At least I take care of my cuticles.
I really admire women with pretty nails.
They always look calm, elegant, and mature.
Me, I still feel restless, and in kimono I sometimes end up looking a little “messy.”
That’s why I dream of looking more like a beautiful, graceful kimono lady someday.

今日は着付け仲間とランチしてたんだけど、やっぱり話題は着物のことになる。
最近の出来事話していたら「衣紋の抜き加減」について盛り上がりました。
少し前に、私がInstagramにアップした写真に

「抜きすぎですよ」ってコメントがついたんです。
でも友達に見せたら

「真夏の普段着なら問題ないよ！訪問着だったらアウトだけど、これは普段着だから大丈夫」

と言ってもらえて。
あの時は、なんだかほっとしました。
実際、衣紋を抜くと涼しいしね。

改めて思うのは、襟の合わせ方って

その人の雰囲気を作るし、

衣紋の抜き加減には“その人らしさ”が出るんだなってこと。
ほんの少しの違いで、印象って大きく変わるんです。

着物って奥深い！

Maybe it’s because the typhoon is getting closer, but I’ve had a bit of a headache today.

I had lunch with a fellow kimono dresser, and we ended up talking about how much to open the emon (the neckline at the back).

Our conclusion? It always depends on TPO—time, place, and occasion.

The other day, I posted a photo on Instagram where I thought my collar looked perfect, but a stranger commented, “That’s way too open.”

When I showed the photo to my friend, she said,

“If it’s casual wear in midsummer, there’s no problem at all. If it were a formal kimono like a homongi, it would be different—but this is casual, so it’s fine.”

That reassured me.

(And honestly, leaving it more open does feel cooler in the summer!)

The conversation reminded us of those unusual customer requests, like wanting a Coming-of-Age Day furisode styled like an oiran, or a seven-year-old’s kimono tied like a maiko.

It’s tricky, because every style has its own meaning and context.

What I realized again is this:

The way you align the collar shapes the atmosphere you give off, and the amount you open the emon shows your individuality.

Even the smallest difference can completely change the impression you make.
